Three Red Lights Podcast: Episode 134

by Jonathan Downin in Games751 days ago

We get an episode of TRL this week, but with Greg and Ryan on the cast it feels more like Podcast Beyond. Lost starts the conversation with its new season starting soon. Dark Void discussion takes over with Greg and crew coming down hard on the game. There is nary a positive word said about it, and the 5.0 score on IGN seems to be among the lowest in the press. Xbox 360 hardware issues have struck again in what seems to be an extremely unlucky stretch for the reliability of the console. The conversation then moves to a more positive place with everyone...

Three Red Lights Podcast Episode 132

by Jonathan Downin in Games792 days ago

Hilary is back in the studio with the TRL guys, and that is always a good thing. The Saboteur doesn’t get much love at the front here, and Darksiders is similarly not striking a high note. Final Fantasy XIII‘s recent 39/40 rating in Famitsu sparks some discussion, but it’s Lost Planet 2 that has the guys excited, especially Charles. There is a big section of emails in the middle that lead to some fun topics, including a reader who has concocted an omelet that bears the Onyett name. An interview with a couple of the Forza 3 guys...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 130

by Jonathan Downin in Games820 days ago

The Three Red Lights podcast is back and as off topic as ever. Mark Bozon is on TRL, along with every other IGN podcasts this week, and he is discussing his review for Modern Warfare 2. The guys stay away from any of the issues surrounding the games release and focus on the game itself. Apparently Hilary Goldstein wanted to give it an 8.0. Rumors purporting that Natal will be priced at the equivalent of £50 in Europe have been floating around. That is equal to about $80 US. Also mentioned is that there will be 14 games ready at launch. If Microsoft...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 126

by Jonathan Downin in Games861 days ago

It’s the first episode of Three Red Lights without Hilary and things are going fine. Ryan Clements has been added to the mix, but it is not clear whether he will be a permanent member along with his regular spot on Podcast Beyond. The guys have been playing some ODST and have a few stories to tell while berating Ryan for not playing with them. Erik was at TGS last week and he shares some impressions about Project Natal. It sounds like everything played fairly well, but he does complain of some minor, ever-present lag in the input. Dead Rising...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 125

by Jonathan Downin in Games875 days ago

Lateness is no stranger to the TRL guys.  Hilary is leaving the podcast and this is his last episode.  Jeremy Dunham also left recently so we can only assume that this is related to his departure since Hil only says that he is leaving the podcast, not the company.  More than likely, Hillary is going into upper-level management, but we are not sure, so fill us in if you know where he is going.  He is a big loss. Erik Brudvig will be taking over Three Red Lights, and while Erik is an entertaining guy, nobody can replace Hilary.  If you have been...

Three Red Lights, Episode 124

by KirePDX in Games896 days ago

Hilary Goldstein is out this week, so Erik Brudvig is hosting and starts with an interview with Travis Chen of Neversoft on the upcoming Guitar Hero 5.  Travis goes in-depth on the studio tools and options, which will be pretty powerful. In a bizarre experiment, the team calls TRL fans to ask Travis questions directly, and it actually goes pretty smoothly. Mass Effect: Pinnacle Station DLC appeared without warning this week, but it’s apparently a disappointing series of combat missions.  Even for $5, Erik says it’s not worth it. ...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 123

by Jonathan Downin in Games904 days ago

Microsoft’s press conference at Gamescom earlier in the week was pretty light on announcements.  The only big news to come out of the briefing was Molyneux’s announcement of Fable III.  The player will become a king in the progression of the storyline and Natal integration was heavily teased throughout the presentation.  It is scheduled for release late next year.  The guys weren’t too impressed by Microsoft’s conference and they detail why here. One thing that didn’t get a announced was a price drop for the Xbox...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 122

by KirePDX in Games911 days ago

Three Red Lights is a day late, but according to Hilary Goldstein, it’s a day better.  That doesn’t mean they cover many games this week, they do talk about Brave: A Warrior’s Tale and Shadow Complex; but the show ends with a 12 minute interview with Cobra Commander, who hasn’t been heard since episode 42. The guys are disappointed with the pricing of both the avatar marketplace and the Xbox Games on Demand, thinking Microsoft is charging too much to see what people are willing to pay.  While digital distribution seems...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 121

by Jonathan Downin in Games919 days ago

1 vs. 100 has started showing up the top 10 games currently being played on Xbox 360.  It’s probably safe to assume that no one expected it to be such a hit when it was announced.  It seems like free games that bring the community together and offer prizes is something that will get people interested. This is the G.I. Joe episode, but that’s not saying much as almost every episode of Three Red Lights seems to be the G.I. Joe episode.  The guys have played the game and it scored a pretty horrible 5.8 on IGN.  It apparently has checkpoints...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 120

by KirePDX in Games925 days ago

Even though Hilary is out this week, the TRL crew is still able to talk about cougars, 80′s pop culture, and do horrible impersonations while occasionally actually talking about 360 games.  There isn’t any agenda, and they cover a lot of random topics, but it’s an entertaining hour if you have the time. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is the only notable release for the 360 this week during its “Summer of Arcade” series.  But with the recent release of Blazblue, King of Fighters 12 and the older Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, none...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 119

by Jonathan Downin in Games947 days ago

A Twitter rant takes up the first 10 minutes of the podcast.  Needless to say, the guys find the whole phenomena somewhat ridiculous. There is a bit of talk about Mass Effect 2 and how it will utilize saves from the first game.  This leads into a discussion about how nice it would be to have your saves stored on Xbox Live so that you could never lose them and they would always be available to you. The real draw here is some impressions done by Jason Ocampo.  You can’t help feeling a little bad for the guy. Covered topics and games: Halo...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 118

by Jonathan Downin in Games953 days ago

Microsoft’s Kodu has been released.  If you are not familiar with this, it is a software suit that brings game creation to those who are not familiar with coding.  It still takes some dedication and it fairly rudimentary though, so don’t expect to be making the Call of Duty with this thing. The guys are talking a bit about Crackdown 2 in this episode and they reveal that they have an interview with the developer, Rufian Studios, going up today that twill have more information.  Get ready to collect those orbs. Although TRL is usually...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Ep. 117

by Jonathan Downin in Games961 days ago

There is a lot of merger and acquisitions news this week.  Bethesda’s parent company, Zenimax Media, has  acquired id Software.  It’s a somewhat strange pair, but Zemimax says that they will allow id complete feedom.  Mythic has merged with BioWare with the doctors at the head of the studios.  Mythic is famouse for their MMOs so it would be safe to assume they will be helping with Star Wars: The Old republic. Hilary had a chance to see Transformers 2 and he doesn’t have too many nice things to say about.  This, of course,...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Ep. 115

by Jonathan Downin in Games975 days ago

It’s been about a month since the last one, but we finally get another episode of Three Red Lights. The guys are of course covering E3 stuff, but as always, they meander about the topics quite a bit.  More then spending a lot of time on individual games, most of the conversation is based around where it looks like Microsoft is headin with their general Xbox strategy. There is a fair amount of Project Natal talk though.  All we can do is hope that Microsoft gets it out sooner rather than later so all the speculation can stop, but word is...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 114

by Jonathan Downin in Games996 days ago

With Daemon Hatfield sitting in this week we get a very atypical Three Red Lights that actually contains comprehendable game discussion. Hilary has a few things to say about Bionic Commando and has more bad than good things to say about it.  Although IGN gave it a 8.0, he says that he would personally probably rate it a 7.0. In talking about E3 the guys discuss Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2.  They mention that all previews and screens of Alan Wake that have come out recently have been said to be old, so everything we see at E3 should be pretty fresh. ...
