This weeks show kicks off with Tyler talking about his experience with Toy Soldiers. He is a bit down on it, citing some bad design decisions and lack of guidance in some of the games mechanics. The guys continue to pile on the love for Bad Company 2, Tyler and Arthur especially are having alot more fun than they did with Modern Warfare 2.
Anthony got to check out Split/Second, he seems to have had fun with it but is wary to say how he thinks the final game will turn out. Discussion somehow leads to Red Faction: Guerilla, which in turn leads to...
Things get off to an odd start when it’s revealed that Ryan’s first game creation on Warioware DIY was something called “Nipple Pinch”. Ryan moves the dicussion onto Just Cause 2, relaying lots of stories of the crazy antics you can get up to in the game. He suggests it’s not a game you should play in long stretches but the scope of the world and the things you can do make it alot of fun.
After some Bad Company 2 talk the guys move onto talking about their experiences at PAX East. The guys talk about a ton of games...
Much like the last time he made an appearance Robert Ashley has a pretty significant effect on the show, leading to some hilarious if occasionally disturbing moments. Tyler kicks the game discussion off by talking about God of War 3, his first foray into the series. He and everyone else on the show who has played have fairly mixed feelings. While they all agree to core mechanics are great they don’t think it holds up to the last game especially.
A discussion about Perfect Dark inevitably leads to a larger talk about Goldeneye. Also contained...
A five man cast this week so things are a little more raucous than usual, to the point that there are many things bleeped out. It makes for an entertaining show if nothing else. Now 343 Industries employee David Ellis kicks things off by recounting his 7+ hours with the Just Cause 2 demo. The demo has a 30 minute time limit so that goes some way to showing how much he is enjoying it. It’s a “great way to blow shit up” seems to be the take away.
God of War 3 causes some debate, while the opening is epic and visual stunning it seems...
The guys wanted to make a point of getting a show out this week after Mac related mishaps stopped them from doing one last week. With GDC going on it’s a shorter show as Anthony and Arthur are on deadline. Arthur got to see Transformers: War for Cybertron, he sounds surprisingly impressed by what he was shown. It sounds like the developers have been given alot of freedom to explore the origin fiction.
Anthony saw the new not-Tomb Raider game, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. As a downloadable title it is already a departure for the series...
It was Nintendos turn to show off games this week so it’s another packed show this week. Before that though Anthony talks about his time with the newest Borderlands DLC, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. He has only played a couple of hours but it sounds like a substantial addition complete with new tiers of weapons to lust for. He has also been playing Miles Edgeworth and is loving it just as he has all the previous Ace Attorney games.
Tyler thinks Just Cause 2 could end up following a similar path to Assassins Creed, with the sequel delivering...
It’s an X10 what you been playing/seeing blowout this week so the vast majority of the show is games talk. Before that though Tyler has been playing some non-X10 games, the first of which is Trials HD. Arthur reviewed Aliens vs Predator and really didn’t like it, it seems to be very low on content and as a result extremely repetitive.
Arthur saw Awakening, the upcoming Dragon Age expansion, and it looks to be a worthy follow-up to the main game. Anthony got some hands on with Command & Conquer 4 and while he had fun with it he doesn’t...
It’s an alcohol fueled episode this week so expect some slurring and a bit more rambling than usual. Anthony played some Heavy Rain, he doesn’t want to spoil anything story related so the discussion is fairly vague, it certainly sounds like it could be as divisive as expected.
Most of the guys have played varying amounts of BioShock 2 and the feelings are mixed. Anthony thinks there are enough cool set pieces to make it worth checking out. But overriding feeling is that it just doesn’t and couldn’t live up to the first game....
Anthony just finished reviewing MAG, he doesn’t think it’s particularly great. The feeling seems to be that it’s just oddly designed in places and the hook of 256 players doesn’t impact the game in an especially meaningful way. He also got to check out Metro 2033, although it shows the limitations of its budget Anthony thinks it has a certain charm. Having the author of the book it is based on helping with the game could certainly give it a richer fiction than most games of its kind.
Arthur has been playing alot of the Bad...
Assassins Creed 2′s first bit of DLC was released this week, guest Ryan O’Donnell and Arthur have both been playing it. While they agree it’s disappointing they both recommend picking it up because the low price for more Assassins Creed 2 content seems like a no-brainer. Arthur briefly touches on Dante’s Inferno, he is not sure of his feelings on it yet but hopes to talk about it more next week.
Arthur played some of the 360 demo for Battlefield Bad Company 2, he says there is a definite learning curve when it comes to the...
Matt Chandronait of Area 5 joins the usual crew this week, after his recent playthrough of Fallout 3 Anthony decided to pick Oblivion again. This leads into some discussion about the potential that Bethesda are making an MMO, a thought that scares Arthur considering how buggy their singleplayer RPGs are.
The theme with this weeks what have you been playing segment seems to be a brief game discussion leading to a broader discussion of the genre. This continues when Matt talks about his experience with Star Trek: Online, this leads into the guys debating...
Matt Chandronait and Ryan O’Donnell of Area 5 join the regular crew this week, the bigger cast means that alot of games are covered in the first segment. The guys have a surprisingly lengthy and interesting discussion of Steel Battalion which Ryan and Matt have been playing. They hope a game like this could be released at a more affordable price perhaps using something like Project Natal.
Ryan and Matt especially have been playing alot of indie games on Xbox Live and independent games on PC. Ryan has been enjoying Spelunky, which will be...
Despite barely being able to talk Anthony manages give his fairly positive thoughts on Darksiders. He feels like it may have been poorly represented in previews and at events that made it seem like more of a brawler than it is. Tyler has played a few hours of Bayonetta, he thinks there are some really small smart design choices that have added to his enjoyment.
Most of the show is taken up with replies to this weeks listener question, which asked for listeners gaming resolutions for 2010. Unsurprisingly a lot of replies involve dealing with gaming...
In the last recorded RebelFM of ’09 Tyler Barber is missing but in his place are Bitmob‘s Greg Ford and Area 5‘s Matt Chandronait. Being the end of the year there is little new to talk about so the what you’ve been playing segment is taken up with some older releases. Greg Ford has been playing the Zelda: Minish Cap for GBA, which he has apparently been playing on and off for 2 or 3 years.
Modern Warfare gets briefly discussed, exploits and balance issues being the main focus. Greg also played through Assassins Creed 2, he...
The show kicks off with Tyler sharing some stories of Modern Warfare 2, it’s pretty much all he’s been playing this week and he is loving it. He says he will definitely “prestige” when he has the option. Arthur has been playing some racing games he missed to be better informed for game of the year discussions, he doesn’t feel Dirt 2 and Need for Speed Shift compare well to Forza 3.
Anthony and Arthur have been playing some Army of Two: 40th Day, they both agree it improves on the original but that it still suffers from...
