CastMedium Podcast 086 – E3 2011 talk

by Jonathan Downin in Games246 days ago

It’s all over. E3 2011 has come to a close and there was a lot of great stuff announced, revealed and on show. We briefly touch on our predictions from last week and recap that we were pretty spot on, but we also realized in hind-sight that we weren’t really too ambitious with our predictions. We hit the big 3 in our discussion starting with the Wii U. Opinions get a little divided on Nintendo’s forthcoming console/controller, but we can all agree that it’s at least interesting. The PSVita gets its due time and then it is...

Player One Podcast – Episode 222 (01/24/11) – Three Twos, Ten-Four

by Ross Adams in Games382 days ago

The guys hit some news items at the top of the show, starting with the recent information about the 3DS launch. Everyone but Ford is pretty much set on getting the console when it launches, even though they admit there’s no real must have games releasing alongside it. The tech itself and the various features the machine itself offer (3D video and augmented reality for example) seem enough to impress the guys. Steam coming to Ps3 with Portal 2 is also briefly touched upon, with it potentially effecting which platform the Player One crew gets...

CastMedium Podcast 066 – 01.06.11

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc, Tech401 days ago

The news cycle is just kicking back into gear, so we take this week’s episode to discuss what we would like to see in games and tech this year. I start things off with my readiness for new consoles, but I seem to be alone in this. Jon then talks up the 2011 PS3 release schedule and Erik pines for day and date digital releases alongside retail launches. Jon closes-out games with love for avatar awards. In tech, I lament the now dusty-feeling state of iOS. Jon discusses what he wants to see in an iPad hardware refresh and Erik again discusses...

Tekzilla 168 – HDTV Marketing BS Busted

by Jon Cole in Tech443 days ago

It’s the first week of the new biweekly Tekzilla/HD Nation megapodcast and Robert Heron appropriately joins the show as cohost to Patrick. Hulu Plus news opens things up, as they’ve moved out of beta and changed their monthly cost to $7.99 rather than $9.99. In similar home theater news, Vudu will soon be coming to PS3, adding yet another high-def on-demand option to the device. HDCP solutions, the best audio solution for the PS3, HDTV marketing mishaps, and budget 50″ HDTVs fill out the bulk of the viewer questions before Robert...

Tekzilla – Windows Phone 7: Thumbs Up!

by Jon Cole in Tech473 days ago

After quite a long absence on CastMedium, Revision3′s Tekzilla returns this week with regular updates going forward. Reemergence of Verizon iPhone rumors have been linked to Verizon LTE plans, implying the possibility that Apple will finally take the plunge due to the new mobile telephony standard. Patrick and Veronica take this opportunity to further explain the differences between the different mobile specs on the market, highlighting the prevalence of GSM and the limited reach of CDMA. Lead analyst for PC Mag’s Mobile division Sascha...

This is Only a Test – Episode 16 – Tested Takes on the Electronic Three – 6/16/2010

by Alex Martin in Games, Tech602 days ago

Will and Norm often mention game technology, but this week’s podcast is all about E3. That shouldn’t surprise, given the treasure trove of new hardware shown at this year’s expo, and they start with Nintendo’s new 3D handheld console. The 3DS has several improvements over the DS, but most importantly the 3D screen works, looks good, and didn’t hurt their eyes. It also has a 3D camera which Nintendo demonstrated with an amazing-sounding augmented-reality game. They have mixed feelings on Microsoft‘s Kinect motion...

Mobcast Episode 43

by Jon Cole in Games710 days ago

In a continuation of last week’s lineup of comedians to appear in the Cross Platform Comedy show, Sheila Bryson and Dave Karraker join Dan and Demian for this week’s Mobcast.  Fortunately, these two guests bring some more industry rep than the other half of their crew, both working for several gaming PR companies including Crystal Dynamics and Sony.  Shoe takes this fact and runs with it, asking each of the crew about their first experience in the gaming industry, which range from Skinemax-caliber PC games to 3DO platformers. After...

gdgt weekly 061

by Jonathan Downin in Tech834 days ago

Any other week, the announcement of Netflix coming to PS3 would be big news, but it has been overshadowed by the inundation of activity in the mobile world. Palm has announced that the Pixi will be launching next month for $99. While this is a reasonable price, it is going to be a hard sell against the $99 iPhone 3G, and the guys say as much. Motorola’s DROID, available from Verizon on November 6th for $199, has made huge waves in the mobile world. With its high-res display, Android 2.0 OS and Google’s recently deployed turn-by-turn...

Engadget Podcast 146 – 05.15.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1001 days ago

The images which depict a slim-line, redesigned PS3 are very interesting.  Sony needs something to make PS3 more desirable and next to reducing the price, making it smaller and more attractive would be the best thing for them to do.  Whether it is real or not, it looks pretty beautiful.  We will just have to wait until E3. Microsoft is still holding a lot of attention with their Zune ads.  The reactions have been pretty positive and that trend continues to some extent here, but the guys air the usual grievances with the $30,000 figure. There...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 80

by Jonathan Downin in Games1086 days ago

There is a special guest on this week’s special episode joining in on some special discussions, the special Playstation Blog guy, Jeff Rubenstein. Plenty of Patapon 2 and Street Fighter IV talk on this one.  Way to go Capcom, you’ve managed to make a game that is almost universally loved. Oh, and the Playstation boys are still pouring the love on Killzone 2.  The LPM (laughs-per-minute) meter is probably broken after this one. Greg, Jeff, Ryan and Sam might not have the graceful guidance of one Chris Roper, but they have a very special...

Giant Bombcast 01-20-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1116 days ago

The drink test seems to have back in a pretty strong way. The guys are still loving on Fable II.  That game seems to appeal to almost everyone and have staying power.  It was a big jump from the original Fable so that makes me excited about the prospect of Fable III. It is going to be very interesting to see what happens with the PS3 this year.  It’s the most important year for Sony yet. We celebrate Inauguration Day with a UK drink taste-test, copious discussions of Street Fighter IV, Skate 2, Knothole Island, our collective frustration...

Podcast Beyond – Episode 75

by Jonathan Downin in Games1121 days ago

Guys, is it so hard to get album art for the podcast?  Just whip something up and stick with it, thank you. The IGN team is talking about Sony’s recent money problems and how they are expected to post a 1.1B dollar loss for 2008.  It will be very interesting to see what Sony does to try and turn things around in 2009.  Is it already too late? Chris, Greg, Jeff and Ryan are buckled up, strapped in and hands-down ready to go all out and rock this week’s episode. On today’s exciting edition of Podcast Beyond, Greg finds out that...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 104

by Jonathan Downin in Games1127 days ago

It’s nice to hear the IGN guys paying homage to the EGM/1UP crew.  A lot of people seem to think IGN is a lower class of game journalism, but if you have been listening to IGN podcasts for a while you will know that the IGN editorial team is really top notch.  They even give a moment of silence to the ex-1UP guys and gals. Microsoft’s Kodu seem interesting.  I’m not sure that it is an exact analogy to Little Big Planet, but it seems like that is what they are going for.  We’ll see. Wow.  The IGN guys GUARANTEE that Duke...

Podcast Beyond – Episode 74

by Jonathan Downin in Games1128 days ago

The Beyond crew is ringing in the new year. In what seems to be customary practice at the point, we get some 2009 predictions. Bet game of 2009 being a PS3 game?  Word of PS4 within the year?  PSP2 announced this year?  Those are some big predictions.  My wallet hates it, but I always love to hear about new hardware. Chris, Greg, Jeff, Ryan and Sam are ringing in the New Year with a bang. That “bang,” good reader, is Podcast Beyond. And what a “bang” it will be. On today’s show, the fearless crew ponders over the...
