The Oddcast

The Oddcast: 03/15/2010

by Ross Adams in Games695 days ago

This weeks show is mostly made up of an assortment of random stories from GDC last week. From games played to Sams failed attempts to lie to a woman demoing a game. There’s some discussion of the Playstation Move, which Sam thinks is interesting although agrees it doesn’t seem to offer too much more than the Wii. Tina thanks Sharkey for introducing her to alot of indie games through the recession gaming segement as it meant she knew alot of the games on display. This leads to some debate as to what makes an indie game “indie”...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 143

by Jon Cole in Games811 days ago

Game Scoop starts off this week with some Left 4 Dead 2 stories and it seems like everyone in the office has been enjoying the game.  Next up is the wholly unimpressive Tony Hawk Ride, which Hilary found easier when using his hands to wield the skateboard controller rather than placing it underfoot. The guys discuss the end of the holiday game release season, with slim pickings until Christmas including The Saboteur and Avatar: The Game.  Greg and Daemon both seem a bit put off by the art style of Avatar, comparing the alien Na’vi to smurfs. ...

Rebel FM Episode 41 – 111909

by Ross Adams in Games812 days ago

It’s just the usual 3 hosts this week and what you’ve been playing starts with Anthony explaining the shortcomings of Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition on Wii. He has also been playing Left 4 Dead 2 which he thinks is better than Left 4 Dead 1 in every way. After a brief discussion about Assassins Creed: Bloodlines on PSP, Arthur and Tyler share their thoughts on Assassin’s Creed 2, Arthur especially is very impressed by it. This leads to some debate about game of the year, and Anthony worries that more recent games will get picked...

Player One Podcast | Episode 147 – Jet Jaguar-style

by Jonathan Downin in Games908 days ago

It’s a fairly tame week for the Player One guys with not too much news to cover and Greg Sewart being inexplicably absent.  Greg Ford is still managing to make time for the show and he is representing the sports games this week.  The Bigs 2 sounds like it captures a lot of the magic of the first game while introducing some new mechanics.  Even if you are not into sports games, it seems like The Bigs series has a lot to offer. Phil is talking about a DSi Ware title that is more of an animation tool than game named Flipnote Studio.  He even...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 118 – Periodd

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies963 days ago

First up this week is Year One and Away We Go.  Year One seems to disappoint and seeing how many of the creative people involved are also lined up for Ghostbusters 3, this makes the guys a little sad.  Away We Go turned to be quite good and if you are in your early 30s and don’t know what to do with your life, this will probably be right up your alley. Tiger Woods with Wii MotionPlus manages to win over the guys and Red Faction continues to impress.  Alex is the only one wearing the hater-pants this week.  iPhone games get some talk this...

Giant Bombcast 06-16-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

There has been a serious case of Trash Panic addiction going around the Giant Bmb offices with Vinny not being able to put it down.  Sony continues to put good, quirky games on PSN.  At $5 it sounds like a worthy purchase. Project Natal being on Jimmy Fallon is very interesting.  It shows that Microsoft is really interested in evangelizing the technology even a year out from release.  It is also cool to see these kinds of things being pushed into the mainstream with guys like Jimmy Fallon actually being into games and technology.  What is up...

Xbox 360 Fancast 115 — Fools and the Pitying of Them

by Jonathan Downin in Games1012 days ago

Richard was having some problems with his audio levels last week and things don’t seem to be much better this week. We get a pretty good run-through of games this week.  For those of you wishing that the 360 would get the Marvel vs. Capcom demo along with the PS3, you shouldn’t worry too much.  Apparently the demo only includes a handful of character and only local multiplay with no vs. CPU mode.  Also the guys are talking about the Wolverine demo which is great, download it and give it a try. The last section of gamer’s emails...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 133

by Jonathan Downin in Games1018 days ago

Left 4 Dead’s survival mode is recently out and the consensus here is that is pretty insanely hard, maybe too hard.  The guys lament the fact that there were no new scenarios included in this DLC, but come around to the fact that it is free, so how much can you really complain. The Hunter crops back up into the conversation this week and the guys, for the most part, are still pretty enamored with it. Jason Kapalka, of PopCap, is the big draw this week.  PopCap has almost single-handedly brought the idea of casual gaming into the gaming landscape...

Rebel FM Episode 13 – 4/02/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1044 days ago

This isn’t the Rebel FM it has been.  If you haven’t heard, Philip Kollar has decided to step aware from the show.  He mentions in his post on eat.sleep.game. that he isn’t going away for good and that he will pop up on podcasts from time to time, maybe even Rebel FM.  That’s makes Rebel FM without its two main creators.  But the show must go on. Though the format is changing we still get the “what you’ve been playing” segment.  They then move on to GDC stuff starting with OnLive.  Matt Chandronait...

Listen UP: 03/20/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1057 days ago

With N’Gai Croal on this week Resident Evil 5 get a lot of talk time.  The initial discussion starts with a comparison between the mechanics of RE5 and Dead Space.  There is an interesting idea put forth that the difference between these two games is the difference between survival horror and thriller.  The controls for RE5 are also argued to be what makes the game successful by David Ellis. If you are at all interested in the racial issues surrounding Resident Evil 5 you can’t miss what N’Gai has to say.  Even if you are tired...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 127

by Jonathan Downin in Games1059 days ago

More love for MadWorld here.  While not doing anything well, the combination of the elements that are there come together in a way that is enjoyable.  Apparently the color commentary is genuinely funny as well. The guys are talking about Puzzle Quest: Galactrix on this one as well and they seem to like it a bit more than most others have on other podcasts.  They do mention that it seems slower than the first one while being somewhat frustrating, but it keeps pulling them back in. Cory and Shawn will be having a spoilerific Resident Evil 5 section...

Giant Bombcast 03-17-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1060 days ago

Jeff is talking MadWorld at the beginning here and he is a little hard to read again.  He seems to like it but he makes the point that everything in the game feels like it wasn’t fully fleshed out.  And apparently this game is way more racist than Resident Evil 5. Peggle gets some more coverage from the Bombcast guys and a good point is made.  Peggle is not a commitment game, it’s a game you want to be able to alt-tab out of and that is not the experience you get when you have to fire it up on Xbox and that makes it somewhat unsuccessful. Lot’s...

Player One Podcast | Episode 125 – All According to Keikaku

by Jonathan Downin in Games1061 days ago

The guys touch on a little bit of everything this week and one this is unanymous, Peggle is fun.  Everybody loves Peggle, but the Xbox Live multiplayer gets a surprisingly luke-warm reception here.  Apparently playing Peggle is fun, watching people play Peggle– not so much. Street Fighter IV is still a big topic this week and the group brings up a funny point.  Has Mad Catz ever had the kind of demand that they have been getting for their SF sticks and gamepads?  It seems like they are pretty hard to find so they must have underestimated...

Xbox 360 Fancast 108 — Overclocked

by Jonathan Downin in Games1061 days ago

If you have been listening to the X3Fancast for the past few weeks you know Xav has been having some troubles with his internet and thing are not any better this week.  Hope you like that garbled Skype sound. There is not much going on in this episode except for the interview with a couple guys from OC Remix that did the music for Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix.  They have an interesting origin story and it just goes to show how you can break into the games industry in many ways.  Their site has a lot of great game remixes and more are...

Major Nelson Radio – Show #312 : Resident Evil 5

by Jonathan Downin in Games1062 days ago

The Major has an interview with Chris Kramer from Capcom on this week’s episode.  We have a heard so much about Resident Evil 5 that having someone from Capcom on to give a somewhat corporate take on things really doesn’t offer much.  PR talk on an over discussed game is really necessary. One of the more fun games to come out in a little while is Peggle on Xbox Live Arcade.  The game is simple, yet addicting.  If you haven’t played it anywhere else, this is definitely the place to pick it up since it has cooperative play over...
