Mobcast 73: Emotions Run High

by Alex Martin in Games494 days ago

The Mobcast is Aaron Thomas flavored this week, and he’s joined by GamePro’s AJ Glasser and GameXplain’s Andre Segers and Jimmy Thang. Aaron starts by asking the table for their biggest professional regrets. His is his Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction review. Insomniac weren’t pleased with it, and he still feels he could’ve more clearly justified his score. AJ regrets an inaccurate Kotaku post, and Andre and Jim similarly rue factual inaccuracies. Next, Andre invites them to share their most emotionally moving...

Rebel FM

Rebel FM Episode 62 – 05/13/10

by Alex Martin in Games637 days ago

After the worst podcast introduction ever Anthony, Arthur, Tyler and semi-regular Matt get into the games they’ve been playing. Anthony and Matt start by comparing Bullet Storm to Pain Killer and Burnout. The combo system sounds more like an extreme sports game though. Arthur loved the choice of song for the Alan Wake end credits but raised an eyebrow at the strange ending. He also continues the Lost Planet 2 hate but enjoyed some Split Second. A lot of the staff at Black Rock used to work for Criterion, so it’s got a distinctly Burnout...

Giant Bombcast E3 2009 Day Two

by Jonathan Downin in Games981 days ago

Get ready for an absolutely off-the-wall insane podcast.  Leigh Alexander of Gamasutra is on this one and she is full of opinions and love for Kojima and Metal Gear.  Be warned, she is pretty intense, so go into this one with an open mind.  There are some interesting things said about motion controllers, open worlds and intense explanation of the meta parts of MGS4. The conversation starts moving towards some traditional game talk and impressions.  Craig calls on the guys to share their biggest disappointments of the show and Brad gets pounded...

Rebel FM Episode 17 – 5/06/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1009 days ago

There are a lot of games covered on this one.  Everyone has been playing something, but not too much.  This leads to some extended conversions about Killzone 2, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4 and a few others.  Arthur has some pretty negative sentiments about Metal Gear Solid 4 and Sterling airs one of his own rants about Wolverine. The topic of the week is a pretty interesting one.  Anyone who listens to gaming podcasts, or reads this site for that matter, has probably been a gamer for a long time.  But no matter how long you have been playing...

Listen UP: 03/20/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1057 days ago

With N’Gai Croal on this week Resident Evil 5 get a lot of talk time.  The initial discussion starts with a comparison between the mechanics of RE5 and Dead Space.  There is an interesting idea put forth that the difference between these two games is the difference between survival horror and thriller.  The controls for RE5 are also argued to be what makes the game successful by David Ellis. If you are at all interested in the racial issues surrounding Resident Evil 5 you can’t miss what N’Gai has to say.  Even if you are tired...

Rebel FM — Episode 5 — 02/04/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1101 days ago

The Rebel FM crew is joined by two of the Area 5 gents again this week. Anthony is talking about Dawn of War II on this episode.  Coming from the same guys that brought us the amazing Company of Heroes, it looks to be a more accessible take on their already very refined take on real-time strategy. Great discussion on shooters here.  As is proving to be the norm on Rebel FM we get another very in-depth, serious approach to discussing the merits and validity of different approaches games within the same genre can and do take. Our usual cast of house...

Rebel FM — Episode 4 — 01/28/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1109 days ago

Four episodes in and still going strong.  This week the Rebel FM crew are joined by the two main guys behind the newly christened Area 5, Ryan O’Donnell and Matt Chandronait. The topic of narrative is one that is somewhat polarizing.  It’s a topic that has been covered many times and people always seem to have different viewpoints on it.  Some of the most notable discussions that I have heard have involved Shawn Elliot, previously of GFW Radio.  If you haven’t listened to it you owe it to yourself to go back and listen to the...

Rebel FM — Episode 3 — 01/21/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1115 days ago

Can we really be up to episode 3 already?  It just goes to show how quickly these guys were on the up-take. The sound quality here is another step up, if still a little echo-y, from the last episode.  The guys got new equipment and you can tell. There is a great discussion on the review process here.  I think 1UP was on the right track when they converted to their letter grade system, but if you ask me, it should be a flat scale with no pluses or minuses.  What is your ideal rating system? This week we’re joined by Geekbox.net’s Ryan Scott...

CO-OP | Episode 1

by Jonathan Downin in Games1115 days ago

Ryan O’Donnell, Matt Chandronait and the team behind the now defunct 1UP Show have started their own production company, Area 5, and have released the first episode of their new video game show CO-OP. It is somewhat in the vein of The 1UP Show with a focus on discussion of games backed up by game footage, but this seems to be a bit of a special first episode with almost all the big guys previously of 1UP sitting in talking about their favorite games of last year. There are some technical issues and it really is only the first half of what...

Giant Bombcast 01-20-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1116 days ago

The drink test seems to have back in a pretty strong way. The guys are still loving on Fable II.  That game seems to appeal to almost everyone and have staying power.  It was a big jump from the original Fable so that makes me excited about the prospect of Fable III. It is going to be very interesting to see what happens with the PS3 this year.  It’s the most important year for Sony yet. We celebrate Inauguration Day with a UK drink taste-test, copious discussions of Street Fighter IV, Skate 2, Knothole Island, our collective frustration...

The HotSpot 1/06/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1130 days ago

What a way to bring in the new year.  At over 2 hours you better get comfortable before listing to this one. We get a nice year overview here along with a little bit of talk about what was notable last year. I used to not mind podcasts being lengthy, but I’m starting like they should keep it reasonable unless they really have something that needs the extended time-frame. The HotSpot comes out swinging for 2009 with the longest episode yet, far surpassing the surgeon general’s daily recommended allowance of inane chatter. Find out all...

Joystiq Podcast 080 – Show of the Year edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games1134 days ago

The first episode of the year broadcast from their off-shore oil tanker the Joystiq boys are talking about the reception of their top list of 2008 and miscellaneous other game musings. More love for Fable II and some blasphemous hate for Fallout 3 from Ludwig.  I can understand how the completely open and somewhat unguided experience of the game could put some people off, but the foundation is solid.  In an RPG do you prefer a guided Fable II-like experience or something that is completely up to you like Fallout 3? We kick off the New Year with...

Giant Bombcast: Game of the Year 2008 Edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games1137 days ago

This is a great take on the game the year awards.  The Giant Bomb crew decided to pick their GOTY winner on the podcast.  That means we get an inside look at the decision making process and get to hear some heated discussion. Giant Bomb has provided a unique take on almost everything they have done with not just the podcast, but the site as well.  It is really nice to have a bigger gaming site around that is not necessarily run in the typical corporate manner.  That’s one thing that starting your own company affords you. We let you inside...
