Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 58

by Jonathan Downin in Games899 days ago

It has been a big week for PC news.  If you haven’t heard, the next expansion for World of Warcraft, titled Cataclysm, was announced and it will completely change the level 1-60 level progression with all starting areas being changed.  It also bumps the level-cap to 85 and introduces 2 news races to the game.  Unfortunately, Blizzard hasn’t announced a release time frame yet, so it is probably still a ways out.  Blizzcon also delivered some Diablo III news including the announcement of a new class, the monk, and word that it will...

Command Prompt Podcast, Epsiode 57

First up this week is news of Age of Conan’s first expansion pack up for release.  Apparently the game sold quite well last year ranking 3rd in overall PC game sales.  The real measure of success for MMO’s is in the subscription numbers though.  EA also revealed their first expansion pack for The Sims 3 that will allow your Sims to visit noteable world locals. QuakeCon was last week and Jeff Haynes was there to experience his first one.  It sounds like there was a lot of interesting information being thrown out at the convention...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 56

by Jonathan Downin in Games913 days ago

Battle.net’s part in the StarCraft 2 delay is discussed here and it has the whole crew lamenting their impatience.  With the recent network issues that have been striking games such as Battlefield 1943 and Fat Princess it is probably for the best that Blizzard takes its time in making sure that everything is in place since the rush to play SC 2 online is going to be insane.  Jason feels that Battle.net is not the only issue here with the game itself just not quite at a place where it will be finished in time for release this year. Jason...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 55

by KirePDX in Games920 days ago

According to Command Prompt, a villain is just the hero for the other side, so they spend some time with the Empire for a potential TIE Fighter rerelease, and look at both the good and evil stories of Aion‘s world. LucasArts recently hinted at upcoming announcements about TIE Fighter, a beloved Star Wars space sim, and it has the PC crew excited for a remake or rerelease similar to what LucasArts has done for their other classic games. On the MMO front, Jason and Jeff Haynes have been playing Aion, an upcoming MMO from NCsoft. While there...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 120

by KirePDX in Games925 days ago

Even though Hilary is out this week, the TRL crew is still able to talk about cougars, 80′s pop culture, and do horrible impersonations while occasionally actually talking about 360 games.  There isn’t any agenda, and they cover a lot of random topics, but it’s an entertaining hour if you have the time. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is the only notable release for the 360 this week during its “Summer of Arcade” series.  But with the recent release of Blazblue, King of Fighters 12 and the older Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, none...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 54

by KirePDX in Games927 days ago

Command Prompt spends most of its hour answering the evergreen question: is PC gaming dead?  Sparked by a recent article from IGN Australia, the PC crew is quick to defend the platform and look to the future.  Not surprisingly, MMO’s come up a lot. Staci Krause was at the BioWare panel for The Old Republic at Comic-Con and came back disappointed that they didn’t share any new details.  At this point, BioWare has dropped a lot of hints, but provided very few facts about the game so the question comes up: did BioWare announce it too...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 119

by Jonathan Downin in Games947 days ago

A Twitter rant takes up the first 10 minutes of the podcast.  Needless to say, the guys find the whole phenomena somewhat ridiculous. There is a bit of talk about Mass Effect 2 and how it will utilize saves from the first game.  This leads into a discussion about how nice it would be to have your saves stored on Xbox Live so that you could never lose them and they would always be available to you. The real draw here is some impressions done by Jason Ocampo.  You can’t help feeling a little bad for the guy. Covered topics and games: Halo...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 50

by Jonathan Downin in Games955 days ago

Acquisition talks ensue.  Though we have heard a lot on this topic, these guys are very familiar with these companies since most of them come from the PC side of things.  The guys make a great point about the EA consolidation.  They say Mythic has a lot to add to Star Wars: The Old Republic with their experience in big PvP combat with their previous MMO experience.  With the Jedi vs. Sith angle of the game, this could be very exciting. Jeff had a chance to play some Starcraft 2, but he doesn’t have too many new details to dole out.  If...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 49

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

Jeff was out searching for a copy of the Sims 3 over the weekend and it sounds like it is sold out all over.  We were able to procure a copy at a Best Buy, but there were only a few left out of what looked like 100s.  It is a whole lot of fun, so don’t let the stigma of franchise put you off. Jason and Jeff are talking about Star Wars: The Old Republic and it makes us want to see some game footage.  If only Bioware would put out a 30 minute walk-through of a mission. The guys also have a few things to say about Left 4 Dead 2 and what they...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 48

by Jonathan Downin in Games976 days ago

If you have been following the E3 coverage you are probably well aware that there wasn’t much PC stuff there.  The games that were there were for largely cross-platform titles, but most of those will run and look better on PC, so that’s worth something. One big game that is exclusive to PC, at the moment, is Star Wars: The Old Republic.  Maybe it is just that enthusiast gamers are the same people that love Star Wars, but everyone seems to be very excited about Bioware’s Star Wars MMO.  With what they are doing with storytelling...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 47

by Jonathan Downin in Games996 days ago

More 3D realms talk with the confirmation that they are in fact still open for business.  Don’t get too exited though because Duke is still dead. The Sims 3 has been leaked.  It seems that no big game release can come and go without the given game being leaked, but maybe that is not such a horrible thing.  At least with the Wolverine movie a leak seemed to help the box office sales, but the games and movie industries don’t work the same way. The topic of OnLive comes up and the guys speculate that they will not be attending E3 as...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 46

by Jonathan Downin in Games1004 days ago

Just like everyone else the Command Prompt guys are not taking the 3D Realms and Duke Nukem 3D news lightly.  Jason has more than a few things to say on the subject. Thief 4 also comes up and while the sentiment is generally positive there is also an understandable bit of skepticism.  Those of us that played the original can surely agree with Jeff when he says it has taken far too long. A big chunk of time is spent talking about the news that a game based on A Song of Ice and Fire is being developed.  It sounds like it is one of those series...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 45

If you have been a regular listening of Podcast Beyond get ready for a very different Jeff Haynes.  No more “Beyonds,” just rational discussion about rational topics.  In all seriousness, this is a big change.  Charles is no longer on the show, as he has moved to the Xbox team, and things feel a little strange.  Jeff is a fresh voice here though and manages to infuse some much needed humor. Not too humorous though is the situation with Six Days in Fallujah.  Konami has dropped the game and this has left the developer without a publisher...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 44

by Jonathan Downin in Games1025 days ago

This is Charles Onyett’s last podcast.  He is moving to the Xbox team so he may be appearing on the Three Red Lights podcast. The guys are talking about the recent announcement of Fallout: New Vegas.  This is not a sequel of to Fallout 3, but it takes place during the same time period so it is more of a side-story.  It is being made by Obsidian Entertainment which is comprised of some of the original Fallout team. Valve has released a free downloadable content pack for Left 4 Dead.  It makes the two maps that were not available in verses...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 43

by Jonathan Downin in Games1032 days ago

Assassin’s Creed 2 is the talk at the beginning of this one and the guys have some fun speculating about what it will be.  The fact that it is based in Venice is definitely cool and with the improvements there should be over the first one this could be pretty amazing. It sounds like the news of Will Wright leaving EA may not have been as much of a shock to these guys as it was to everyone else.  It is exciting to think that he will have the chance to develop his ideas without the responsibility of making a hugely popular game.  Will surely...
