Invisible Walls – Episode 48

by Jonathan Downin in Games1064 days ago

A lot of bad things are said on this one about Sonic & the Black Knight on this one, and deservedly so.  Whoever thought putting Sonic into a classic British tale was a good idea needs to be questioned– harshly. Resistance: Retribution looks amazing.  One of the best things about Invisible Walls is you get see footage of the games that the guys talk about and it is pretty surprising how good some games look on PSP.  Resistance looks even better than most PS2 games. It hasn’t been promoted as a really high profile game, but The...

Invisible Walls – Episode 47

by Jonathan Downin in Games1071 days ago

Marcus throws out a crazy prediction up front here about Mass Effect 2 possibly being an MMO.  This just doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen.  Everyone who liked Mass Effect surely liked it for its great single player story and if that is missing in the second one would there really still be that huge built-in audience? For those of you who have been hearing a lot about the 50 Cent game and scratching your head about it, the guys talk about it here and we get a good look at it.  Marcus lives up to his “grumpy” moniker...

Invisible Walls – Episode 46

by Jonathan Downin in Games1078 days ago

We get some coverage of a Puzzle Quest: Galactrix event that took place last week and then the IW guys move onto Mad World.  Mad World looks like a great combination of old school beat-em-up and absolute brutality.  If you have a Wii and are looking for your next fun-fix and have a strong stomach, this will definitely be one to check out. They have played a good ways through Resident Evil 5 and can talk about it at this point.  The common sentiment about the controls is reiterated here, but there are some good things to be said as well.  It...

Invisible Walls – Episode 43

by Jonathan Downin in Games1099 days ago

Marcus makes this podcast what it is.  That guy is great. Some Uncharted 2 info in this episode.  There is a theory from the guys that there might be a coop experience in there.  If you haven’t played the first one it really is one of the best looking and most enjoyable PS3 games out there. What did you think of the FF XIII trailer?  I am ready for a new Final Fantasy game, especially one that looks this good. This week the team looks at Fallout DLC, Uncharted 2, and early videogame reviews. Runtime – 32:22 Link (Invisible Walls)

Invisible Walls – Episode 40

by Jonathan Downin in Games1120 days ago

If you’re not tired of hearing about 1UP or CES give this one a look. Not too much else going on this week.  You could probably skip this episode and not miss too much. There is a pretty cool scroll of EGM covers over the years that may be worth they view. The guys discuss CES post mortem, DLC controversies, the demise of EGM and your viewer questions are answered! Runtime – 33:11 Link (Invisible Walls)

Are people really still interested in the DC comic characters, besides Batman?  I can’t believe it.  Maybe DC Universe for PS3 can turn that around. I love Marcus Beer/Grumpy-McGrump.  He has a clear vision about what he likes and he is generally on target.  I think people usually like rather critical points of view , me included. Still love that game footage running throughout. We look forward to the underdogs of 2009. Runtime – 26:41 Link (Invisible Walls)

Invisible Walls – Episode 38

by Jonathan Downin in Games1136 days ago

We get another look ahead to the games of 2009 from the guys (and gal) at Gametrailers.  They are talking about some of the smaller promising stuff, so that’s refreshing.  Since Invisible Walls is a video podcast we get to see some cool footage of Prototype and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Prototype hasn’t had too much coverage, but that game looks amazing!  Part Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, part Crackdown and part GTA– this is a recipe for gaming nirvana. Looking forward to 2009, what surprises might publishers have in store? Runtime...

Bonus Round – Episode 29: Part 5 – 2008 Year in Review

by Jonathan Downin in Games1139 days ago

The group is talking best console of the year in this final episode of the 2008 Year in Review edition.  Pachter is going with the Wii on this one while Davis and McWhertor go with the 360. I can see Pachter’s point of view, but I gotta go with the 360 as well.  The way that the Wii has made gaming an acceptable hobby and social activity can not be downplayed though.  What does everyone else think? With another year under their belts can anyone catch up with Nintendo? Runtime – 10:38 Link (Bonus Round)

Bonus Round – Episode 29: Part 4 – 2008 Year in Review

by Jonathan Downin in Games1146 days ago

I can’t help but laugh every time I hear that “powered by Burger King” line.  I know it’s cool to use “powered by” but sometimes staying traditional and just saying “sponsored by” is just better. The foursome are talking about the state of developers (I think they actually mean publishers) on this installment.  EA is a focus here and I gotta say that they are releasing more, better titles than they ever have.  Rock Band, Burnout Paradise, Mirror’s Edge, Left 4 Dead.  That’s just naming...

Invisible Walls – Episode 37

by Jonathan Downin in Games1148 days ago

Invisible Walls this week has a special guest from the new website Bringit which allows you to place real cash wagers on games.  This sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.  Most gamers + honor system = anarachy. Some more fun NPD talk on this.  What do you guys think about the business side coverage in the gaming enthusiast press?  Do you care?  I for one find it very interesting and like that it is such a focus by many. The walls have their very own awards and the voice of GT graces us once again. Runtime – 34:11 Link (Invisible Walls)

Bonus Round – Episode 29: Part 3 – 2008 Year in Review

by Jonathan Downin in Games1153 days ago

In the second episode this week we get some game of the year picks from the guys.  Pachter goes for Fallout, Davis likes Left 4 Dead and McWhertor sticks with the mainstay GTAIV. Although amazing, GTAIV has really sorta lost is sheen over the months for me.  Ask me right now and I would probably say Fable II.  Although I can appreciate it, Little Big Planet just doesn’t keep me coming back like many people. We take a good look at what games may have a chance at game of the year. Runtime – 12:35 Link (Bonus Round)

Invisible Walls – Episode 36

by Jonathan Downin in Games1155 days ago

Is the Resident Evil series still viable?  I am fully aware that 4 was great and I would have finished it if my PS2 hadn’t corrupted my save file 6 hours in, but is more of the same, just prettied up, really what people want? On the Metal Gear front, things could get very interesting or very mundane.  I love my 360, but if all that Kojima is teasing is a 360 port I will be utterly disappointing.  The Metal Gear guys always seem to have a new take on things even if they are not always perfect.  Count me as interested. Persona, Resident...

Bonus Round – Episode 29: VGA Special – 2008 Year in Review

by Jonathan Downin in Games1157 days ago

In this special release we get to hear some pontification on who will win big at this year’s Video Game Awards.  We get a lot of talk about the correlation between sales and critical success. Ryan is looking a little more comfortable in this segment.  The VGAs have never been that big of a deal, but with Jack Black, a real gamer game player, hosting this year could things be making a turn for the quasi-legitimate? We take a look at what some of the GT users think of the VGA’s and the questions they want answered. Runtime – 14:21 Link...

Bonus Round – Episode 29: Part 1 – 2008 Year in Review

by Jonathan Downin in Games1160 days ago

The Burger King powered Geoff Keighley is bringing you a review of the gaming industry of 2008.  His right left hand man, Michael Pachter, is around as always to analyze, along with Giant Bomb‘s Ryan Davis and Michael McWhertor from Kotaku. I don’t care what anybody says, Michael Pachter is one of the best pundits in the gaming industry.  He is a real breath of fresh air from the usual gaming aficionados.  Maybe Michael should have his own gaming show.  Think Suzie Orman of the gaming industry. We look back on 2008 to find out what...

Invisible Walls – Episode 35

by Jonathan Downin in Games1162 days ago

The GameTrailers weekly video podcast is out and on this weeks edition covers a few games, a few topics of the game market and the guys chime in on the New Xbox Experience. The approach of Invisible Walls is a bit different than most other game video podcasts.  Less talking heads and more footage is the way of things here.  It really works well and should definitely be given a view if you haven’t before. Prince of Persia, the used game market, the new Xbox Experience, and Super Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix. Runtime – 30:45 Link...
