Xbox 360 Fancast 110 — Fanmail Special

by Jonathan Downin in Games1145 days ago

This is pretty much an all fanmail episode.  No Alexander this week so the sexual innuendo is kept to a reasonable level.  There is some talk about the next Xbox and OnLive. The big draw here is the Resident Evil 5 spoiler talk after the main show ends.  Skip it if you haven’t finished it yet though since it is full of spoilers. We’ve been bad. We know it. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a proper look at fanmail. With GDC going on last week, and very few Xbox announcements emerging from it, we decided this would...

Xbox 360 Fancast 109 — Dirty Dishes

by Jonathan Downin in Games1152 days ago

The E74 issue is not going away and the guys have a few things to say about it.  Some people were saying that it was possibly just the Red Ring of Death with a change in the error display introduced by the New Xbox Experience.  People are still getting the RRoD though so it doesn’t seem to be the case. The creator of The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, James Silva, is on this week and he is a funny guy, very wry.  The game is done and is slated for release during Microsoft’s “Days of Arcade” promotion.  He goes into the process...

Xbox 360 Fancast 108 — Overclocked

by Jonathan Downin in Games1159 days ago

If you have been listening to the X3Fancast for the past few weeks you know Xav has been having some troubles with his internet and thing are not any better this week.  Hope you like that garbled Skype sound. There is not much going on in this episode except for the interview with a couple guys from OC Remix that did the music for Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix.  They have an interesting origin story and it just goes to show how you can break into the games industry in many ways.  Their site has a lot of great game remixes and more are...

Xbox 360 Fancast 107 – Sad Robot

by Jonathan Downin in Games1166 days ago

Mirror’s Edge and Far Cry 2 get a few comments from Richard as he finished them both recently.  Both of these great games got passed over late last year so if you are looking for something to play and haven’t given these a chance, now is the time. There is a rumor that the Xbox Elite is going to be fased out of retail.  Apparently the Elite is not selling too well and taking up too much shelf space so is not seen as being necessary in the core line-up.  It will be reserved for special edition bundles like the recent Resident Evil...

Xbox 360 Fancast 106 — Naughty Words

by Jonathan Downin in Games1173 days ago

If you are not watching Joystiq Xbox’s XBLA in brief videos you should be.  Ever wondered if you should spend your hard-earned MS secret points on the week’s XBLA release?  That’s what this is for.  This week Richard covers Exit 2 and it’s far from great.  It is a weekly feature and you can subscribe via iTunes. The undying issue of Resident Evil 5s control mechanic rears its head here again.  This topic isn’t going away and you can count on it being a key point in reviews.  But with over 4 million downloads of...

Xbox 360 Fancast 105 — Mythic proportions

by Jonathan Downin in Games1180 days ago

The big talk here is Halo Wars and the Joystiq Review written by Richard.  It’s starting to sound like a broken record around here every time a big game comes out as everyone talks about them, but there is not much more to say about the game.  If you like RTSs on console, get it; if you like Halo maybe get it; if you like RTSs on PC, rent it; all others forget it. Xav attended a Halo Wars launch event and got a crack at the Mythic map pack.  It’s sounds like there will be some fun forge stuff in there.  The “Sandbox”...

Xbox 360 Fancast 104 — Who Watches the Fancasters?

by Jonathan Downin in Games1187 days ago

Dustin, Dustin, Dustin…  Such an endearingly weird character you are.  Richard is the guy who keeps it all together, but Dustin is really the guy that keeps you coming back. The topic of the absolutely overextended state of Guitar Hero is talked about here.  Seriously Activision, take a cue from the Rock Band guys.  The game should be a platform us to deliver downloadable content.  Don’t make us a buy a new base game 17 times every year. Nice Sonic rant from Xav at the 50 minute mark. The unstoppable Xbox 360 Fancast is back yet...

Xbox 360 Fancast 103: Wars (of the Halo variety)

by Jonathan Downin in Games1193 days ago

The Halo Wars cutscenes sound like a departure from the way the story is handled in previous Halo titles– in a good way.  The guys are only talking in detail about the gameplay, no story stuff here.  It sounds like they are really liking it, especially the controls, and that is saying a lot for a game like this on console.  This looks to be a very action centered RTS, sounds right seeing as this is Halo. More universal dislike for the controls of Resident Evil 5.  The survival horror has really evolved since RE4.  I am currently playing...

Xbox 360 Fancast 102 — The Lost Episode

by Jonathan Downin in Games1201 days ago

It has taken them a while, but it seems like the Joystiq Xbox guys have finally fixed most of the issues with their podcast feed.  The transition wasn’t exactly smooth, but the problem are being taken care of. As the release of Halo Wars approaches Ensemble Studios is no more.  We will see how well the game does, but one things is for sure, Ensemble Studios will be missed. X3F (that’s the Xbox 360 Fancast) is back once again with a brand new episode. Before we get into the festivities, an announcement: The iTunes feed is up and running...

Xbox 360 Fancast 101: Brave New World

by Jonathan Downin in Games1207 days ago

And the transition is complete.  If you haven’t seen it yet, the new Joystiq has launched and Xbox 360 Fanboy now falls under Joystiq as the Xbox 360 “spoke.”  The new site design is great and feels fresh.  Don’t worry though, the fancast isn’t changing. The guys are pouring on some love for The Maw.  It’s seems a bit old-school, but is being praised for it’s nice graphics and simple, yet fun gameplay.  Sounds like a good buy for $10 on XBLA. Maxim rates 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand higher than Street...

Xbox 360 Fancast 100 — Extravabration!

by Jonathan Downin in Games1215 days ago

The Fanboys have hit episode 100! We get a pretty long show here that’s got the guys talking about the good ‘ol days with a lot of clips from listeners and a call from Major Nelson. Congratulations to the Xbox 360 Fancast for making it to 100 episodes! This is it, folks! The 100th episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast. This bad boy clocks in at just over two hours and it’s positively crammed with goodness. We reminisce about the good times, Xav chews out an Alexander hater, we talk to Major Nelson and we eat Marmite. That’s right,...

Xbox 360 Fancast 099 — Mmm … Marmite

by Jonathan Downin in Games1222 days ago

Only 1 more until 100 for the Fancast guys.  I don’t think there is any special episode 100 “hooplah” coming though. Wow, Dustin, that is quite the amazing Fable II story.  It seems like such a bright game on the surface but you really can go crazy.  I’m proud I can say I went through the whole game and had no such “interactions.” This is it, the last episode before we hit the mighty number 100. Barring some horrible catastrophe on a galactic scale, we’ll probably make it. This week, we discuss all the...

Xbox 360 Fancast 098 — New Year’s Fanmail

by Jonathan Downin in Games1229 days ago

As usual, while others are still on holiday the fancast guys are back with a show.  Xav is absent on this one which is just about an every other show thing at this point. Left 4 Dead seems to have some real staying power.  I have yet to give it a go, but it seems like I am long overdue.  The team-work approach sounds amazing, but I can’t imagine this is catching on with the typical Halo and Call of Duty crowd. I did give Braid a try and that is really– unique.  Nothing quite like it out there.  Definitely worth a try if you like...

Xbox 360 Fancast 097 — FOTY Edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games1236 days ago

The fanboys are talking about their game of the year pics on this one.  You don’t even have to listen to this one to know Dustin picks Gears of War 2. It’s so cool that download games, whether XBLA or PSN, are getting so good that they can be considered for game of the year awards.  There are so many great offerings.  If you haven’t already, give Braid and Castle Crashers a go. This is it, folks. This is the last Xbox 360 Fancast of 2008. The next time you listen to a new show, it will be the future. Being that this is the last...

Xbox 360 Fancast 95 — The one with Ross (not Bob)

by Jonathan Downin in Games1250 days ago

Heading ever closer to the magic 100, Alexander is missing again this week but in his place we get Ross Miller from sister site Joystiq.  It’s nice to get people from a less platform specific site to chime in from time to time. Anybody else given this snow globe thing a try?  It’s amazing what the companies are doing to really ring in the casual market.  Personally, I am all for getting more people into games.  I’m not going to play the Cooking Mamas and You’re in the Movies, but if that what it takes to make the gaming...
