Podcast Beyond: The Peril of Japanese Games

by Jon Cole in Games490 days ago

The news of DC Universe’s delay opens up Podcast Beyond this week, which further thins the PS3′s exclusive holiday catalog after last week’s delay of LBP2. Playstation Plus users will have the chance at getting into the Killzone 3 beta, though only the first 10,000 users to download a free Killzone 3 theme on the 19th will ultimately be let in. In other news, EA has caved to outside pressure considering the upcoming Medal of Honor’s Taliban multiplayer faction, renaming it “Opposing Force”. Square Enix has recently...

CO-OP — Episode 315: Reflections 2009 Part 2

by Derek Lavigne in Games746 days ago

This week picks up right where last week left off, with more discussion on favorite games of 2009. For those who didn’t tune in last week, the CO-OP guys have assembled a group of some of their more regular guests for this discussion. Downloadable titles are first focus of conversation, with David Ellis mentioning that Flower had what he felt were the best Sixaxis controls of any PS3 game. A quick stop on the quirky Noby Noby Boy leads to Dan Hsu talking about his love/hate relationship with one of my favorite games of last year, ‘Splosion...

The Geekbox

The Geekbox: Episode 48

by Jon Cole in Games, Movies, TV756 days ago

After a little bit of light talk about television, Ryan Higgins talks about his recent experiences with Demon’s Souls.  He’s been encountering the odd game design choices that people often complain about and it’s particularly interesting to hear a take on the game from someone who doesn’t play a wide variety of games.  Ultimately, he’s been enjoying the game, despite the lack of instruction of basic game mechanics. Fitch has been playing Bayonetta and makes a fairly original comparison to God Hand, which had a similar over-the-top style...

Active Time Babble

Active Time Babble VII: Final Fantasy XIII | 01/14/2010

by Ross Adams in Games757 days ago

It may not be out until March but that doesn’t stop Final Fantasy XIII taking up the first segment of the show, Jeremy, Kat and Christian have been playing the Japanese version. Jeremy and Christian soon came to the realisation that the game is so narrative heavy it really should be played in their native language. The second part of the show is devoted to RPG highlights on 2009 and upcoming RPGs of the year to come. Everyone has trouble thinking of many standout RPGs from last year, although Kat does give Demon’s Souls some more love....

Giant Bombcast 12-01-2009

by Derek Lavigne in Games801 days ago

With Brad out of the office, site designer Dave Snider sits in on the podcast this week. A recap of the holiday break takes up the first part of the show with tales of food and holiday events. Assassin’s Creed 2 has been on the docket for many of the GB staff and Vinny took the time with family to throw in some old games like Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2. Talk then turns to the month of December being slow on the new achievements and what everyone’s plans were on catching up on missed titles. Jeff mentions Ratchet & Clank:...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 142

by Jonathan Downin in Games818 days ago

NPDs kick off this week’s Scoop. DJ Hero sales came in below even the moderate expectations for the game with only 122,000 units sold. Most of the crew have finished Modern Warfare 2, and the opinions are universally positive. Charles has been playing some Left 4 Dead 2 and his review will be going up on Monday night. Microsoft has recently banned between 600,000 and 1 million Xbox Live accounts due to association with modded consoles. This is a huge number, and if accurate, points to the 360 piracy problem being a lot bigger than many imagined. GameStop...

Drunken Gamers Radio 11-07-09

by Derek Lavigne in Games823 days ago

Another early episode of DGR this week brings us a very inebriated Moe, who honestly makes this episode fairly difficult to listen to. As usual a drunk dial and mailbag segment starts off the show. A couple of emails challenge the DGR crew’s apprehension to Forza 3 having a second disc that needs to be installed, which they proceed to defend. Reviews this week contain a pair of download only games with Silent Swords for the iPhone and Pinball Pulse for DSiWare. Hilden feels that Silent Swords is interesting, but some mechanics could have been...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 27

by Jon Cole in Games830 days ago

This week’s Mobcast takes the idea of a themed show from last week’s cast and continues it with the role-playing game genre.  Jason Wilson brings three industry figures to the table: Aram Jabbari, Chris Avellone, and Brenda Brathwaite. The discussion starts with a focus on what essentially sets Western and Eastern RPGs apart.  Since Aram works at Atlus, he brings up how some aspects of communication simply can’t be conserved in the localization process of some Japanese games. Brenda talks about the role of death in RPGs and the transition...

CastMedium Podcast 010 – 11.02.09

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, Tech830 days ago

10 episodes in and still going strong. 1UP podcast news starts the cast off again this week with the at1UP interview with David Ellis about his new 4 Guys 1UP podcast, and the new RPG-centric Active Time Babble from Kat Baily and Jeremy Parish. There were a lot of happenings in games over the past week, and Jon kicks things off with his Torchlight experience, and Jeff Gerstmann level addiction to Borderlands. Erik gives the thumbs-up to GTAIV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, and we are all baffled by the disc-required Netflix PS3 announcement. Demon’s...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 113

by Jonathan Downin in Games834 days ago

The Xbox 360′s exclusivity of Netflix is officially over. The streaming video service is coming to the PS3, but you must have a proprietary Netflix disc in the drive to view the Netflix content. Although this seems highly counter-intuitive, they have announced that this is just a stop-gap solution until it can be done purely through software– strange. Socom for PSP has been delayed. Although Slant Six is saying that they need more time to better promote the game, the guys speculate that this is a move to avoid the release of Modern Warfare...

Giant Bombcast 10-27-2009

by Derek Lavigne in Games836 days ago

The Bombcast again starts off this week on bigger name recent release with Vinny discussing his experience with Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time. Talk of a recent press event that Vinny and Brad went to for Army of Two: The 40th Day then leads to a discussion on the merits of pre-order and pack-in bonuses, which all the guys seem to agree are largely a negative trend.  Afterwards, Jeff shares his excitement for DJ Hero, which seems to clear up his previous skepticism. News starts off once again with talk of the Modern Warfare 2 PC server controversy,...

CO-OP – Episode 302: Animated

by Jonathan Downin in Games837 days ago

The busy Fall release schedule has begun, but you wouldn’t know it by this week’s episode. Matt starts things off with the indie RTS Eufloria. The game is stylistically captivating and Matt touts its simplistic gameplay as a strength. This may not have a wide appeal, but it’s nice to see indie games getting a chance with services like Steam. iPhone game take up the middle section this week. The guys pack 3 games into the segment which seems to make a lot more sense with smaller games like this. Canabalt has Ryan enjoying the bare-bones...

Idle Thumbs 48: In Space

by Jonathan Downin in Games842 days ago

Infinity Ward has announced that the multiplayer in the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 will not have dedicated servers support. The guys speculate that this is a way for them to stave off piracy. This decision has the Call of Duty PC fanbase up-in-arms. Our own Jon Cole wrote an article on this very issue which was featured on Bitmob.com, so check it out. Chris is still enjoying Demon’s Souls despite its rigid difficulty. He describes it as meaningful difficulty though, as it is not just cheap kills, but rewards actual skill. Chris has written...

The HotSpot 10/20/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games843 days ago

Borderlands is proving to be received in a much more positive light than many previously thought. We touched on it in this week’s CastMedium Podcast and may have been a little hasty in our dismissal of the game. Demon’s Souls continues to capture imagination with Brian talking about his strange attraction to the game. Justin got his hands on the PSP version of GTA: Chinatown Wars and it sounds like Rockstar has polished it up nicely. The tentatively forthcoming Sam Raimi directed Warcraft movie is still in the news. Justin voices his...

CAGcast #175: The Citizen Kane of Podcasts

by Derek Lavigne in Games848 days ago

Starting off the show with stories as usual, CheapyD recounts his trip to Disney Sea in Tokyo the previous week with his wife. Wombat then tells about his adventure with his family going pumpkin picking, which included his wife getting a speeding ticket after she insisted on driving so Wombat didn’t get one. Cheapy was unable to find Demon’s Souls to talk about like seemingly everyone else, so instead he picked up Mirror’s Edge, which he is actually enjoying so far. Wombat shares how he was able to play Tony Hawk RIDE and DJ Hero...
