Joystiq Podcast 120 – Chewbacca Battle Chess edition

by Jon Cole in Games886 days ago

Justin McElroy is off the show this week due to some internet problems, but Ben Gilbert is in to take the third chair.  Don’t fret, though, because Justin calls in early in the show to rant about Dante’s Inferno, which is decidedly a direct ripoff of God of War.  On a similar note, Visceral also announced Dead Space 2 as well as the Isaac Clarke playable character in Dante’s Inferno, which is met with little surprise. Richard Mitchell also calls in, who talks about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories in the Whatcha been playin’ segment. ...

Rebel FM Episode 43 – 120909

by Ross Adams in Games889 days ago

The show starts off with some pretty passionate discussion of Modern Warfare 2 in the what you’ve been playing segment. Guest Dan “Shoe” Hsu and Tyler have been loving the game lately and praise the constant rewards it hands out, making for a seriously addictive experience. Anthony seems to have enjoyed Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, with the unique features of the Wii remote put to good use. The second segment is all about the recent announcement of Bitmob and Area 5′s involvement in the relaunch of EGM. Matt and Shoe...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 118

by Jonathan Downin in Games890 days ago

Ryan is out sick this week, but they still make him call-in for the podcast– poor Ryan. Word of Dante’s Inferno getting a special edition on PS3 has Chris wondering if it isn’t to entice the God of War crowd. EA’s John Riccitiello was caught calling the PS3 motion controller “Gem” recently, and the guys don’t like the name. PS3 firmware 3.15 is out and it introduces a new content transfer system that allows users to transfer all their data and games from an old PS3 to a new one. Maybe more exciting is the...

The Oddcast: 11/25/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games905 days ago

1UP, along with every other big gaming outlet, is in the midst of working through their game of the year awards, and the crew provides some insight into the process here. Sharkey talks about getting Left 4 Dead content into your Left 4 Dead 2, and Ken Kutaragi gets the brunt of more than a few jokes. The bizarre, and somewhat obnoxious, Dante’s Inferno marketing is still in full force, and everyone is tired of it. The 2nd part of the show is an interview with EA 2D’s Ethan Levy, the producer of Dragon Age Journeys. Covered games and...

Rebel FM Episode 39 – 11/05/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games924 days ago

This week’s cast kicks off with Left 4 Dead 2, but quickly moves on to Modern Warfare 2 and the group, with guest Tina Sanchez, spend over 30 minutes discussing the various recent developments surrounding the game. The overall tone is rather negative, with the limits on the PC and Xbox multiplayer modes and the recent controversial video being cited. Tyler and Arthur both state they will not be picking up the game in light of these issues. Tyler has been playing GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony and has nothing but praise for the game. Borderlands...

Rebel FM Episode 37 – 10/22/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games939 days ago

Anthony has finished his 1st playthrough of Borderlands and ended up giving it a 4/5 star review on GameSpy. This is in pretty stark contrast to what Arthur had to say about the game last week. Anthony is also talking about Dante’s Inferno PSP after having some time with it recently. He says that it is more God of War-like than ever, but that doesn’t sound like a bad thing. Tropical 3 also comes up as a follow-up to the discussion about the game on this week’s Geekbox. Tyler has been playing a lot of games recently and he talks...

Idle Thumbs 46: First Annual Year

by Jonathan Downin in Games954 days ago

Chris finally got around to firing up Red Faction and he is loving it. The guys are talking about the game here in a context that hasn’t been touched on too much in the games press. They point out how ridiculous the story is, yet the game doesn’t acknowledge it. This is the norm for games and the discussion here points out that we are almost always put in a position of controlling some sort of psychopath in games, yet we have been so conditioned to this that we rarely notice anymore. The developers of Dead Space and the forthcoming Dante’s...

Idle Thumbs 44: Salacious Thumb

by Jonathan Downin in Games966 days ago

The quirky humor of Idle Thumbs continues to entertain with Chris being inspired by ODST to noir-up the edit this week. The Halo ODST discussion starting out the cast leaves an impression that is equal parts positive and negative. While Chris praises the Halo series as being one of the tightest FPS experiences around, Nick and special guest Steve Gaynor aren’t quite convinced. The renaming of ODST as “Odious Tea” is brilliant though. Scribblenauts sparks the now common sentiment that the second entry in the series may make the...

Game Scoop! Podcast: TGS 09 Edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc967 days ago

As much of the game press, the IGN guys are in Tokyo to cover the Tokyo Game Show. Don’t expect much actual game talk here, this is a Japan experience episode. It sounds like most of the guys’ time in Japan so far has been spent in some state of drunkenness. There is a lot of food talk with Greg chronicling his ever-ongoing quest for miso soup.  The guys also made a long trek to the Tsukiji fish market which turned out to be closed due to it being a holiday. EA held a pre-TGS briefing, featuring Dante’s Inferno, which is the only...

Joystiq Podcast 108 – Red Link edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games980 days ago

Justin starts off the cast this week with a few impressions of Champions Online.  The guys also have some nice things to say about Section 8 and Chris points out the unique spawning system that has you dropping from space.  They do point out the almost assured sad fact that if you want to play this, you had better pick it up right upon release because Halo ODST and Modern Warfare 2 are going to steal all the players away from this game when they are released. The Beatles: Rock Band gets its requisite time, as does Batman before the recent controversy...

Rebel FM Episode 27 – 07/30/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1023 days ago

Rebel FM seems to get longer every week.  At almost 2 1/2 hours it feels like this could be cut down quite a bit, but there is a lot of actual game talk going on in this one. Arthur attended Comic-Con and he went hands-on with a lot of games that weren’t even available to the press during E3.  Dante’s Inferno sounds like it is shaping-up quite nicely.  If you like the God of War style and aren’t opposed by harsh and sexualized imagery, this could give God of War 3 a decent run for it’s money. Brutal Legend has been getting...

Giant Bombcast 06-16-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1066 days ago

There has been a serious case of Trash Panic addiction going around the Giant Bmb offices with Vinny not being able to put it down.  Sony continues to put good, quirky games on PSN.  At $5 it sounds like a worthy purchase. Project Natal being on Jimmy Fallon is very interesting.  It shows that Microsoft is really interested in evangelizing the technology even a year out from release.  It is also cool to see these kinds of things being pushed into the mainstream with guys like Jimmy Fallon actually being into games and technology.  What is up...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 007

by Jonathan Downin in Games1068 days ago

Now that the madness of E3 has passed, the guys are sitting down to talk a bit about the site and games.  They admit as much themselves, but they are still in the process of figuring things out when it comes to site content and how to cover E3. Motion controls come up as a big topic this week with a focus on how and if they they make games actually less immersive.  Many of the things we want to do in games are not physically possible so that presents a dilemma for motion controls to some extent. The guys are also choosing their favorite games...

Invisible Walls – Episode 56

by Jonathan Downin in Games1106 days ago

Some of you may know him from Gamespy, but Miguel Lopez is the newest member of GameTrailers and Invisible Walls. Some cool stuff is covered this week in Dante’s Inferno, Brutal Legend and Wolverine.  Dante’s Inferno looks pretty amazing.  The graphics are great with very unique character designs and it looks to follow in God of War’s footsteps in all the right ways.  Brutal Legend also looks like it’s going to be great.  Let’s hope it becomes the hit that Tim Schafer deserves.  Marcus is talking about Wolverine...

Podtoid 89: We told you so

by Jonathan Downin in Games1167 days ago

Another new addition to the site here.  Podtoid is put out by Destructoid, a gaming community, game reviews and news blog of sorts, but not quite in the Joystiq or Kotaku sort of way.  They focus less on up to the minute news and focus more on entertaining or insightful articles.  The community is very passionate so check it out and you may find yourself at home.  The podcast is headed up by Aaron Linde and Anthony Burch. There is a huge rant on Japanese role playing games right at the beginning here.  This seems to be a common sentiment among...
