Steve Butts is in San Francisco this week, so he is in studio with Jeff and guest, Mark Bozon, to discuss the juggernaut that is Modern Warfare 2. There have been a lot of issues flying around the PC release, and none of them are missed here, but the guys seem surprisingly okay with the situation. Mark also spends some time discussing why he gave the PC version the same score of 9.5 as the console versions.
Steve has been playing League of Legends and while the verdict on the actual game is good, the community surrounding the game almost ruins his...
Charles Onyett is on this week and he adds some much needed energy to the podcast. The usual group of Steve, Jeff and Marissa can prove to be a little dry at times so this is a nice change of pace.
Steve has finally come to his senses and deemed CrimeCraft to be one of the worst games around. As he points out, there are no less than 4 different ways in which the developers are looking to make money from this game, and 3 of them entail you giving money directly to them. Also, there is absolutely no crime-related gameplay– huh?
Jeff is talking...
And the prize for worst sounding podcast from outlet that should have the equipment to sound much better goes to– seriously, this is horrible. Steve cops to having some technical problems at the beginning here, but the levels are all over the place and the overall quality is terrible. They should have just scrapped this one.
The group touches on the recent rumors of a Call of Duty movie being in the early stages of conceptualization at the beginning this week. This could be interesting, but game to movie adaptations have yet to prove that...
It’s an uneventful week in PC games and a fairly dry episode of Command Prompt. Whether you loved him or hated him, you have to admit that Jason Ocampo made this podcast more interesting.
Jeff has been playing through Dragon Age: Origins and it sounds like just the kind of game that old-school Bioware fans are looking for. Steve and Marissa have been putting some time into Aion and it sounds like it may be worth a look– at least until Cataclysm comes out next year. The PC version of Borderlands has been delayed by 6 days, and this has...
It’s a day late, but Command Prompt made it out this week. The PC version of Resident Evil 5 is now available and it has Steve and Jeff talking about how Capcom seems to have started taking their PC ports more seriously. Majesty 2 also gets some time before Steve gets deep into Champions Online. He has been playing the game a lot recently and he praises the intricate character creator.
Command Prompt tends to be fairly MMO-heavy and things are no different this week with Steve talking about a piece he wrote concerning the top 10 problems...
Straight out of the gate Steve Butts addresses the issue of Jason Ocampo and Staci Krause from last week. He says that they are indeed no longer at IGN and that he didn’t mean to glean over the issue last week, it is just that there isn’t much more that can be said.
PAX starts the game topics this week with some Left 4 Dead 2 impressions and talk of the new clown and jockey infected. A new Lord of the Rings Online expansion is on its way and Marissa shares some details about that. In Star Wars news the original Knight of the Old...
Right up front Steve Butts announces that Jason Ocampo and Staci Krause are no longer with IGN. The quick manor in which he gleans over the statement makes it seem like somewhat of a sensitive issue. There are no hints pointing towards this being a joke.
This week is still very MMO heavy starting out with Champions Online. This is the latest superhero MMO from the developer of City of Heroes and it has many excited by it’s extremely flexible character creation. Marissa talks about IGN’s PAX plans and teases a FunCom reveal. ...
It has been a big week for PC news. If you haven’t heard, the next expansion for World of Warcraft, titled Cataclysm, was announced and it will completely change the level 1-60 level progression with all starting areas being changed. It also bumps the level-cap to 85 and introduces 2 news races to the game. Unfortunately, Blizzard hasn’t announced a release time frame yet, so it is probably still a ways out. Blizzcon also delivered some Diablo III news including the announcement of a new class, the monk, and word that it will...
First up this week is news of Age of Conan’s first expansion pack up for release. Apparently the game sold quite well last year ranking 3rd in overall PC game sales. The real measure of success for MMO’s is in the subscription numbers though. EA also revealed their first expansion pack for The Sims 3 that will allow your Sims to visit noteable world locals.
QuakeCon was last week and Jeff Haynes was there to experience his first one. It sounds like there was a lot of interesting information being thrown out at the convention...
Battle.net’s part in the StarCraft 2 delay is discussed here and it has the whole crew lamenting their impatience. With the recent network issues that have been striking games such as Battlefield 1943 and Fat Princess it is probably for the best that Blizzard takes its time in making sure that everything is in place since the rush to play SC 2 online is going to be insane. Jason feels that Battle.net is not the only issue here with the game itself just not quite at a place where it will be finished in time for release this year.
Jason...
According to Command Prompt, a villain is just the hero for the other side, so they spend some time with the Empire for a potential TIE Fighter rerelease, and look at both the good and evil stories of Aion‘s world.
LucasArts recently hinted at upcoming announcements about TIE Fighter, a beloved Star Wars space sim, and it has the PC crew excited for a remake or rerelease similar to what LucasArts has done for their other classic games.
On the MMO front, Jason and Jeff Haynes have been playing Aion, an upcoming MMO from NCsoft. While there...
Command Prompt spends most of its hour answering the evergreen question: is PC gaming dead? Sparked by a recent article from IGN Australia, the PC crew is quick to defend the platform and look to the future. Not surprisingly, MMO’s come up a lot.
Staci Krause was at the BioWare panel for The Old Republic at Comic-Con and came back disappointed that they didn’t share any new details. At this point, BioWare has dropped a lot of hints, but provided very few facts about the game so the question comes up: did BioWare announce it too...
Acquisition talks ensue. Though we have heard a lot on this topic, these guys are very familiar with these companies since most of them come from the PC side of things. The guys make a great point about the EA consolidation. They say Mythic has a lot to add to Star Wars: The Old Republic with their experience in big PvP combat with their previous MMO experience. With the Jedi vs. Sith angle of the game, this could be very exciting.
Jeff had a chance to play some Starcraft 2, but he doesn’t have too many new details to dole out. If...
Jeff was out searching for a copy of the Sims 3 over the weekend and it sounds like it is sold out all over. We were able to procure a copy at a Best Buy, but there were only a few left out of what looked like 100s. It is a whole lot of fun, so don’t let the stigma of franchise put you off.
Jason and Jeff are talking about Star Wars: The Old Republic and it makes us want to see some game footage. If only Bioware would put out a 30 minute walk-through of a mission.
The guys also have a few things to say about Left 4 Dead 2 and what they...
If you have been following the E3 coverage you are probably well aware that there wasn’t much PC stuff there. The games that were there were for largely cross-platform titles, but most of those will run and look better on PC, so that’s worth something.
One big game that is exclusive to PC, at the moment, is Star Wars: The Old Republic. Maybe it is just that enthusiast gamers are the same people that love Star Wars, but everyone seems to be very excited about Bioware’s Star Wars MMO. With what they are doing with storytelling...
