CO-OP | Episode 207 – Mother Mission’s Desserts

by KirePDX in Games1019 days ago

Warning: do not watch this episode while hungry. The CO-OP crew plays like it’s on the Food Network to show off some local San Francisco cuisine during the segment breaks, and it’s a little distracting.  In the three gaming segments, a diverse group of guests explore some classics reborn, including Space Invaders Infinity Gene for the iPhone, the new Monkey Islands, and the recent Ghostbusters game. Both the recent Monkey Island releases, the updated Secret of Monkey Island and the new Tales of Monkey Island, have received near-universal...

CO-OP | Episode 203 – Gamer Cribs: Cesar Quintero

by Jonathan Downin in Games1046 days ago

The guys are doing something a little different this week with CO-OP.  We get a glimpse into the guys’ houses in the first edition of Gamer Cribs with Cesar.  We dare you to watch this and not want have a place like his. Game #1 this week is Wii Sports Resort.  For what will certainly be a huge hit, this package hasn’t received too much exposure.  The guys are absolutely loving the games included and the precision of the Wii MotionPlus.  If you have a Wii, get this. Overlord 2 is #2 this week and the opinions are mixed.  Matt had...

CO-OP | Episode 202 – Jason’s Day Off

by Jonathan Downin in Games1054 days ago

First game of the show is the Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta.  Greg Ford and Tyler Barber are sitting in on this one and although what everyone really wants is the single-player game, the consensus is that this is a lot of fun.  The game is gorgeous. Star Defense for iPhone gets some love from Ryan, but it seems like that game is getting a bit more praise than it deserves due to the platform. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood has the guys talking here as well.  The developers chose a great time to put this game out.  It sounds very solid, and that...

CO-OP | Episode 116 – E3: Post-Show Memories

by Jonathan Downin in Games1074 days ago

Rather than stick to their usual format of 3 or 4 games, the CO-OP guys are covering a lot of games that they had a chance to see ad get their hands on at E3. A lot of people seem somewhat upset that Valve is putting out another Left 4 Dead after the first one came out less than a year ago with less content than it probably should have had being priced priced at the regular $60.  At least Left 4 Dead 2 seems to offer more content with some minor gameplay additions. It is Bioware blow-out with the guys talking about Dragon Age: Origins, Star Wars:...

CO-OP | Episode 114 – E3 Special 02, Nintendo + Sony

by Jonathan Downin in Games1080 days ago

The CO-OP crew has cranked out another show and in this one they are talking about the Sony and Nintendo conferences.  Sony fares well here, but again the general thought is that Microsoft just outdid everyone.  Also, the PSP go continues to make people feel like it is overpriced and not exactly what we wanted. Covered topics and games: Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros.Wii, Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, PSP Go, PS3 motion controller, Mod Nation Racers, The Last Guardian, Assassin’s Creed 2, Final...

CO-OP | Episode 113 – CO-OP @ E3 2009: Microsoft

by Jonathan Downin in Games1081 days ago

The CO-OP guys are here with there first E3 special covering the Microsoft press conference.  If you didn’t get a chance to catch it yourself, all of the big announcements and games are covered here. It has been iterated more than a few times at this point, but when not 1, but 2 Halo games are shown and neither of them are the highlight of the show you know it was a success.  The crew share their opinions of Modern Warfare 2, Shadow Complex, Left 4 Dead 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Forza Motorsport 3, Halo: ODST, Final Fantasy XIII and...

CO-OP | Episode 112 – Alcohol Endurance Training

by Jonathan Downin in Games1089 days ago

In the first segment this week we have the guys talking about E3 and what they are looking forward to seeing announced.  Even when only considering the currently announced titles, Sony has an amazing line-up this year.  On the other side, the Xbox 360′s line-up actually feels pretty sparse, but hopefully there will be a lot of  stuff we don’t know about coming out of Microsoft at there press briefing next Monday. Patapon 2 takes the middle segment with Matt and Patrick becoming pretty fed up with the grind the game requires.  It...

CO-OP | Episode 111 – Drop and Give me E3

by Jonathan Downin in Games1096 days ago

First up this week Plants Vs. Zombies gets some discussion with the Brodeo master himself, Jeff Green, stopping by to share his love for the game.  It has been said by many recently, but Jeff is right in saying that from now on if PopCap announces a new game, everyone should pay attention. Sway is the iPhone game of the week so if that is your thing and have a few dollars to spare go check this one out. Where did Zeno Clash come from?  This game had next to no hype which is probably due to it being an indie game, but it looks incredible.  How...

CO-OP | Episode 109 – Another Day at the Office

by Jonathan Downin in Games1110 days ago

Phantasy Star Portable doesn’t fare too well as the first game this week.  There is no internet play so you must be playing with people in the vicinity, but there don’t seem to be too many incentives to make the effort. According to the guys the story is horrible and there are quite a few problems with some mechanics and gameplay design choices.  You will probably want to give this one a pass. Fat Princess looks to be a game that may be able to bridge the gap between hardcore and mainstream with its accessible but deep gameplay and...

CO-OP | Episode 108 – No Climate Control

by Jonathan Downin in Games1117 days ago

An already great show keeps getting better and better.  It seems that the guys have moved to a 4 game segment show now. First up we have Rhythm Heaven.  It has been a hit in Japan for a while now and the States finally sees its own localized version.  Every facet of the game is inventive and fresh.  If you like rhythm games this one can’t be missed. Battlefield Heroes on the other hand is a little underwhelming.  The guys seem to like it quite a bit, but the problem seems to be that it is a fairly hardcore game wrapped in a casual visual...

CO-OP | Episode 107 – Mother Mission’s Fruits

by Jonathan Downin in Games1123 days ago

Grand Theft Auto is the first game in the show this week and there are a lot of good things being said about it.  The art style that Rockstar chose for the game suits the DS perfectly and makes a whole lot of gameplay situations possible.  It would have been an easy cash-in, but they really went that extra mile. You know that the iPhone has become a legitamate gaming platform once it takes up a whole segment on CO-OP.  It really is an exciting platform and a lot of gaming value eith games that are almost underpriced. The new Riddick game has...

CO-OP | Episode 106 – How Jason Got His Groove Back

by Jonathan Downin in Games1131 days ago

The first game this week is Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.  This came out last year, but it gets a full segment here.  It nice that the CO-OP crew isn’t afraid to go back and talk about games that may not be new, but have possibly been overlooked. Henry Hatsworth is the second game on the show and don’t let yourself be fooled be the name and art style, this game is by no means casual.  Everybody cannot stress enough how hard the game is.  There is a good point made that EA may have made a mistake with the marketing on this one with the...

CO-OP | Episode 104 – GDC 2009 Special

by Jonathan Downin in Games1145 days ago

This is the GDC coverage you have been waiting for.  Many podcasts have covered GDC, but now you really get to see some of the best stuff that was there.  The CO-OP guys hit another one out of the park.  And did we mention that Jeff Cannata and Adam Sessler are sitting in as well? OnLive, OnLive, OnLive.  The madness just won’t stop.  The guys have some good impressions and what everyone can agree on is that even if this doesn’t work in this iteration it will end up taking over at some point. There is so much covered here: DSi,...

CO-OP | Episode 103 – Dusting off the Wii

by Jonathan Downin in Games1152 days ago

Back to the 3 game format, it feels like the good ‘ol days. First up in the Wii-centric episode is MadWorld.  There is a lot to like about MadWorld and as almost everyone there are a lot of good things said about the game.  The main thing that seems to please everyone is how successful the art style is.  This also proves to make Ryan wish the game was on the 360 or PS3 so the art could really shine. World of Goo takes the second spot.  The game has been out for a while but it is definitely one of those overlooked gems that came out during...

CO-OP | Episode 102 – Selling Ourselves

by Jonathan Downin in Games1159 days ago

Halo Wars is the first game on this one and the guys don’t have too much to add to what has already been said about it.  One things is for sure though, nobody can say it isn’t beautiful, especially with the HD version offered by the Area 5 guys. The second game covered this week is Resident Evil 5.  Right up front the control issue is covered and the opinions are positive all-round.  The hot-button issue of racism, which has surrounded the games release for over a year, is touched upon here and the guys make some good points.  The...
