GWJ Conference Call Episode 155

by Jonathan Downin in Games961 days ago

It’s a small crew this week, but that doesn’t hinder the discussion in the slightest. Special guest Wes Wilson, of the Control Point Podcast, is on this week and he is a heavy MMO player so the discussion starts out with MMOs ranging from WoW to Age of Conan and ends on Aion. It sounds like Aion’s real appeal is the graphic fidelity of the game. Wes chalks it up to “newness.” After singing the praises of the Brutal Legend demo, Shawn expresses his excitement about his newly built Core i5 gaming rig. He decided to throw...

Player One Podcast | Episode 153 – Pinball Wizards

by Jonathan Downin in Games964 days ago

Halo ODST starts this one off with the guys questioning why people have a problem with the length when a game like Guitaroo Man was full priced and was even shorter. Value has been a big issue surrounding ODST and the increasingly prevailing opinion seems to be that it is worth its $60 price tag. A demo for Brutal Legend is out and the combat and writing get some love here while the new XBLA brawler, The Warriors, gets a big thumbs down from Phil. He is enjoying Katamari Forever though and it sounds like if you are not tired of the Katamari gameplay,...

Rebel FM Episode 33 – 09/25/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games966 days ago

Halo ODST continues to be the first game covered in this week’s Rebel FM. Arthur ends up defending the game as Anthony argues that it doesn’t feel different enough and doesn’t offer enough content to justify its $60 price tag. Dead Space Extraction gets a glowing response from the guys here with them saying that it almost elevates the whole on-rails shooter genre. Tyler is talking about wanting to pick up Plants vs. Zombies, and the recent release of a stripped-down free flash version made it impossible for him to put it off any...

Giant Bombcast 08-18-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1004 days ago

Great news– more Shadow Complex talk!  This game is almost talked-out, but Ryan is one of the few with a less than glowing opinion.  While he is enjoying the game in short bursts, he says that he just can’t play it for over 45 minutes in a sitting.  Although this is not completely positive, it’s not exactly scathing commentary. This may be the first time we’ve heard any real skepticism about Brutal Legend.  Vinny and Brad are sharing some of the finer details with Jeff and Ryan here and Jeff in particular is not liking...

Xbox 360 Fancast 128 — Who Moved Christmas?

by Jonathan Downin in Games1019 days ago

Xav takes a big chunk of time up front here to talk about Shadow Complex.  It sounds like he is enjoying it a lot and says that the game took him around 5 hours to finish the game the first time through with about 67% complete.  At $15, it is a must-buy on August 19th. The recent delays that have struck a large chunk of the games that were due out this holiday season are discussed.  Alexander puts it well when saying that we wanted more big games to release outside of the holidays, but just pushing them out 3 months doesn’t really solve...

Rebel FM Episode 27 – 07/30/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1023 days ago

Rebel FM seems to get longer every week.  At almost 2 1/2 hours it feels like this could be cut down quite a bit, but there is a lot of actual game talk going on in this one. Arthur attended Comic-Con and he went hands-on with a lot of games that weren’t even available to the press during E3.  Dante’s Inferno sounds like it is shaping-up quite nicely.  If you like the God of War style and aren’t opposed by harsh and sexualized imagery, this could give God of War 3 a decent run for it’s money. Brutal Legend has been getting...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1054 days ago

The regular Mobcast crew is all together on this one with the addition of Matt Chandronait from Area5 sitting in on this one. There are some interesting topics this week including one on adventure games.  Adventure games seem to be making a small comeback with the likes of Sam & Max, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Heavy Rain.  One idea that is put here is that there are more adventure games than we think, it’s just that they don’t adhere to the classic formula, for example, Brutal Legend. Rage quitting is another...

Out of the Game, Ep. 7: E3

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc1068 days ago

Out of the Game continues to be a fresh take on the gaming scene.  Shawn is back talking about not going to E3 this year and what impact that had on his experience.  N’Gai and Robert were at E3 and provide their views on being there and what changes the increasingly broadcasted nature of the show demand. There is a lot more actual game talk on this episode when compared to previous podcasts.  N’Gai is really feeling the potential of motion controls, especially Microsoft’s offering where Shawn and Robert aren’t quite as...

The Geekbox: Episode 18

by Jonathan Downin in Games1072 days ago

After a week’s absense for E3 the Geekbox crew is back.  In usual fashion, spoilers are not avoided in any way, so if you haven’t seen UP yet you may want to skip the first 20 minutes. E3 is the focus here, but the takes here are fresh as they tend to be on The Geekbox.  The trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic has galvanized the group with Karen and loving it and Greg feeling like it is not too cool to represent an MMO like that.  It really has to be taken as a “flavor piece.” There is some talk about Project Natal...

Listen UP: 06/05/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1078 days ago

It’s a guest inundated affair for Listen Up’s E3 wrap-up with the likes of Adam Sessler, Pete Wanat, Todd Howard and many more stopping by to share their thoughts.  Splinter Cell is getting a lot of love from everyone.  If you just saw the presentation during Microsoft’s press briefing it sounds like there is a lot more going on with the game than you can glean just from that showing. Bayonetta is also a game that is getting quite a bit of attention.  This is quite surprising seeing how so many were labeling it as nothing more...

Game Scoop! E3 2009 Wrap-up

by Jonathan Downin in Games1078 days ago

Here we get the first (and only?) Game Scoop podcast for E3.  The guys touch upon a lot of the big games and announcements of the show and again the consensus is that Microsoft won the show. Tony Hawk Ride has gotten a fairly icy reception in general, but Levi seems to have a good time with it.  Most claims have been that the controls just don’t work as advertised.  The fact that the visuals are a little rough don’t do it any favors either though. Daemon goes on a rant near the end with some serious hate for the Wii.  It seems like...

Giant Bombcast E3 2009 Day Three

by Jonathan Downin in Games1078 days ago

E3 coverage is wrapping up and the Giant Bomb guys are joined by a few more guests to discuss the show floor and talk about the games they haven’t touched upon yet.  Paul Barnett and Carrie Gouskos of Mythic entertainment have a lot of E3 stories to share, including a few including Tim Schafer. Star Wars: The Old Republic sounds like it has a lot of potential.  So many have been clamoring for a good Star Wars MMO that it looks to possibly be the only real potentially successful competitor to World of Warcaft.  Paul has a lot of good things...

Giant Bombcast 05-19-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1095 days ago

There are tons of games talked about on this one so here a big, fat list: Ultimate Fighting Championship, Bionic Commando, InFamous, Brutal Legend, Vattlefield 1943, Fable II, Fallout 3, Patapon 2, Ghostbusters, Punch Out!, Tony Hawk RIDE, new Kojima project and a few others. InFamous sounds like it really is going to be an amazing game.  Brad has played through it and he just teases his review which will be up very soon.  One thing that can be gleaned about his opinion is that the game is fun in a CrackDown sort of way. Over at Giantbomb.com...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 112 – Driving Garments

by Jonathan Downin in Games1103 days ago

The Girlfriend Experience is the movie covered this week.  It is the latest experimental film by Stephen Soderberg about the life of a high class escort.  Dan was the only one who really enjoyed the movie with Jeff and Alex panning it fairly hard.  One interesting thing is that in addition to being released in theatres, it is also now available on Xbox Live and Amazon OnDemand.  Also, apparently 1984 was the best summer for movies in the history of the world. In games the guys are talking about Klonoa and Dark Void.  All 3 found Klonoa to be...

Invisible Walls – Episode 56

by Jonathan Downin in Games1106 days ago

Some of you may know him from Gamespy, but Miguel Lopez is the newest member of GameTrailers and Invisible Walls. Some cool stuff is covered this week in Dante’s Inferno, Brutal Legend and Wolverine.  Dante’s Inferno looks pretty amazing.  The graphics are great with very unique character designs and it looks to follow in God of War’s footsteps in all the right ways.  Brutal Legend also looks like it’s going to be great.  Let’s hope it becomes the hit that Tim Schafer deserves.  Marcus is talking about Wolverine...
