Giant Bombcast 08-18-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1004 days ago

Great news– more Shadow Complex talk!  This game is almost talked-out, but Ryan is one of the few with a less than glowing opinion.  While he is enjoying the game in short bursts, he says that he just can’t play it for over 45 minutes in a sitting.  Although this is not completely positive, it’s not exactly scathing commentary. This may be the first time we’ve heard any real skepticism about Brutal Legend.  Vinny and Brad are sharing some of the finer details with Jeff and Ryan here and Jeff in particular is not liking...

Giant Bombcast 08-11-2009

by KirePDX in Games1011 days ago

Jared Rea joins the Bombcast this week, and it’s surprising to find someone who knows as much about Street Fighter and arcade cabinets as Jeff Gerstmann.  So, it’s a half hour and a discussion on EVO tournament etiquette before they even get into current games. Everyone played Shadow Complex, the upcoming Xbox 360 Metroidvannia side-scroller, over the weekend and like it. Ryan polished off Prototype and thought more of story than Brad, while Vinny finally finished Fallout 3, but is now caught in the DLC. Jeff recently played some Command...

Giant Bombcast 08-04-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1018 days ago

Fallout 3 saw is last piece of downloadable content this week with the Mothership Zeta release on Monday.  Bethesda has done an amazing job in keeping the game fresh and Vinny played through almost the whole thing over the weekend, so there is plenty of talk about it here.  If you haven’t picked up Fallout 3 yet, you may be better off waiting for the inevitable “game of the Year” edition that will release this holiday with all the DLC though. The Matrix Online shut down with all of its servers going off-line on July 31st.  Leading...

Giant Bombcast 07-28-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1025 days ago

Brad was out of the office in his hometown in North Carolina over his birthday last week and he has plenty of food related stories to share.  If you haven’t lived in the South before, it sounds like a whole different world. Jeff and Vinny got a chance to check out Borderlands and they are sharing their very positive experience here.  The game has come a long way from many making fun of the millions guns the game has to people clamoring for it.  The decision to change the art style seems to have done wonders for the perception of the game. There...

CO-OP | Episode 205 – 1337 h4x0rs

by Jonathan Downin in Games1032 days ago

Brad from GiantBomb is on this week talking about Trine with Matt.  They each played the game on different platforms so we get a nice comparison between the 2 versions.  It sounds like some may like controller over WASD controls, but they both stack up well.  The PSN price of $20 makes Steam’s $30 price point seem inflated even the the game seems worth $30 if that was the only price point. Twisted Pixel had moderate success with The Maw, but it seems what that game really accomplished was putting their name on the map since ‘Splosion...

Giant Bombcast 07-14-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1039 days ago

Over last weekend the guys made there way out to California Extreme.  This is one of the biggest annual “arcade game and pinball celebration” events around.  It sounds like the guys had a good time playing some classic games.  You’ll have to wait until next year if you missed it, but it sounds well-worth the admission price. Ryan and Vinny are doing a multi-part look at The Matrix Online.  It has been 4+ years since its release, and boy does it show.  This was probably never an amazing game and now it pretty abysmal, but that...

Giant Bombcast 07-07-2009

The first episode of Telltale Game’s Tales of Monkey Island is out and it is good.  Telltale is mad up of a lot of the original LucasArts people so this makes sense.  Go pick up the season pass on Steam for $34.99. Okay, get this, a company called Galloping Ghost is allegedly making a digitized fighting game in the style of Mortal Kombat.  The only difference is that this is 2009.  Just go check out the screenshots. It gets one more mention–  Asteroids, the movie. Covered topics and games: July 4th, Infamous, Trine, Call of Juarez,...

Giant Bombcast 06-30-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1052 days ago

Another lengthy edition of the the Bombcast.  1 vs. 100 continues to grab attention.  It sounds like a great casual quiz game experience and being free is the thing that really makes it. The Conduit has not gone over too well at the Giant Bomb offices.  Check out Jeff’s review for all the details. There is some very serious and lengthy discussion about the acquisitions that have taken place over the past few weeks.  There is a lot of these going on, but weirdly enough, it sounds like it is to the benefit to almost all involved. The topic...

Giant Bombcast 06-16-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1066 days ago

There has been a serious case of Trash Panic addiction going around the Giant Bmb offices with Vinny not being able to put it down.  Sony continues to put good, quirky games on PSN.  At $5 it sounds like a worthy purchase. Project Natal being on Jimmy Fallon is very interesting.  It shows that Microsoft is really interested in evangelizing the technology even a year out from release.  It is also cool to see these kinds of things being pushed into the mainstream with guys like Jimmy Fallon actually being into games and technology.  What is up...

Giant Bombcast 06-09-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1074 days ago

We get a nice and concise Bombcast this week after the total inundation of podcasts from the guys last week. They crew is summing up their favorites from E3, but you probably have a pretty good idea of what they liked already.  Here we go: Jeff – Borderlands, Brad – Just Cause 2, Vinny – Assassin’s Creed 2, Ryan – Splinter Cell Conviction/The Beatles: Rock Band. Ryan has some interesting stories about his time with The Sims 3 over the weekend and there are obviously some cool/weird things that you can do in that...

Giant Bombcast E3 2009 Day Three

by Jonathan Downin in Games1078 days ago

E3 coverage is wrapping up and the Giant Bomb guys are joined by a few more guests to discuss the show floor and talk about the games they haven’t touched upon yet.  Paul Barnett and Carrie Gouskos of Mythic entertainment have a lot of E3 stories to share, including a few including Tim Schafer. Star Wars: The Old Republic sounds like it has a lot of potential.  So many have been clamoring for a good Star Wars MMO that it looks to possibly be the only real potentially successful competitor to World of Warcaft.  Paul has a lot of good things...

Giant Bombcast E3 2009 Day Two

by Jonathan Downin in Games1079 days ago

Get ready for an absolutely off-the-wall insane podcast.  Leigh Alexander of Gamasutra is on this one and she is full of opinions and love for Kojima and Metal Gear.  Be warned, she is pretty intense, so go into this one with an open mind.  There are some interesting things said about motion controllers, open worlds and intense explanation of the meta parts of MGS4. The conversation starts moving towards some traditional game talk and impressions.  Craig calls on the guys to share their biggest disappointments of the show and Brad gets pounded...

Giant Bombcast E3 2009 Day One

by Jonathan Downin in Games1080 days ago

The Giant Bomb guys always manage to hit so many more games than most other outlets.  How do they do it? Nintendo has definitely had a better show than they had last year.  Almost everyone was upset after last year, but the response has been much more positive this time around.  The guys are pretty happy about the announcement of New Super Mario Bros.Wii and more Mario Galaxy is never a bad thing. Microsoft gets another victory here with the Bombcast.  Although many have said that the leaks hurt Sony, but Jeff argues that if the PSP Go had been...

Giant Bombcast E3 2009 Day Zero

by Jonathan Downin in Games1081 days ago

No one else has spent too much time talking about it, but Crackdown 2 was quickly announced at Microsoft’s conference.  This is great news to many that found this gem when trying to get an early taste of Halo 3 back in 2007.  Another announcement that came out of left field was that for Left 4 Dead 2.  It seems weird for a company like Valve who regularly updates their games with new content to go this route, but it’s more Left 4 Dead, so who can complain?  Also, Metal Gear! On the Project Natal front, Ryan is fairly apprehensive...

Listen UP: 05/29/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1084 days ago

There is a lot going on in this epic Listen UP, but be warned, Garnett is playing devil’s advocate a little too hard in the first half and Travis Moses almost renders some parts of the last half unintelligible. Starting out the conversation up front is more Infamous and Prototype talk.  Garnett still can’t stop sharing his opinion on the two games, but the buzz about Prototype is sounding quite positive indeed with even Brad sharing some good impressions. The guys are letting the predictions fly fast and loose ranging from Wii HD not...
