A Hilden-less show again this week as he is off dealing with real life (read: his wife told him he had better things to do), and the show is a bit lacking in being a duo. Like last week, Moe and John had a bit of trouble with the audio equipment and share their adventures to start off the show. Voicemails are skipped so a few emails get things moving for real. Blaster Master: Overdrive for WiiWare is first up in the reviews segment. John seems to enjoy it, but spends most of the time explaining to Moe what the original Blaster Master is all about...

Player One Podcast – Episode 173 (02/15/10) – Tickets Please

by Ross Adams in Games823 days ago

CJ continues to play White Knight Chronicles, from the sound of it he doesn’t rate it too highly but he is having fun playing it online with friends. The Gregs and CJ checked out the Heavy Rain demo that was released this week. It sold the Gregs but CJ doesn’t like the idea of a game that is nothing but quick time events. Ford and Sewart think it will sell those who know what to expect but put off everyone else. Everyone but Ford has put some time into BioShock 2, their feelings seem to be mixed. CJ faults it for not straying very far...

CastMedium Podcast 024 – 02.15.10

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, Tech823 days ago

CO-OP’s move to a live format starts the podcast discussion this week. Erik’s waning interest has not been swayed by the new format, but Jon and I will be sticking around to see what the Area5 guys do with the show. Also, the return of Idle Thumbs is a great thing indeed. X10 stuff kicks-off games this week with an unexplainable amount of time spent on Lost Planet 2. Erik spent some time with the Heavy Rain demo and sends me into an overly serious diatribe about how games approach telling stories. Jon is a couple hours into BioShock...

Rebel FM

Rebel FM Episode 51 — 02/10/10

by Ross Adams in Games825 days ago

It’s an alcohol fueled episode this week so expect some slurring and a bit more rambling than usual. Anthony played some Heavy Rain, he doesn’t want to spoil anything story related so the discussion is fairly vague, it certainly sounds like it could be as divisive as expected. Most of the guys have played varying amounts of BioShock 2 and the feelings are mixed. Anthony thinks there are enough cool set pieces to make it worth checking out. But overriding feeling is that it just doesn’t and couldn’t live up to the first game....

GameSpy Debriefings

The GameSpy Debriefings #114

by Jon Cole in Games826 days ago

After briefly touching on Bioshock 2, the GameSpy Debriefings inexplicably starts off with a little bit of talk about Viva Piñata and Anthony’s pragmatic style of play.  On the topic of Rare, both Miggels and Anthony share their love for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts and dig up some old qualms that Ryan had with the game’s unreadable text on SDTVs. Fortunately, the conversation swings back to Bioshock 2 and Altano lends a lot of praise to the game’s atmosphere, particularly the sound design.  He goes on to say that he was worried...

The Idle Thumbs Podcast 1: THE GREAT GATLING-GUNSBY

by Jon Cole in Games826 days ago

If you’ve somehow missed the word on the virtual street, Idle Thumbs is back, reanimated in the form of the “Idle Thumbs Podcast” starring Chris Remo, Jake Rodkin, and Steve “Hot Scoops” Gaynor.  With Steve’s work on Bioshock 2 dominating the last few months of his life, Jake talks very briefly about his recent playthrough of Bioshock and Chris discusses his time with System Shock 2 at length.  For more of Chris’s thoughts, check out the most recent Idle Thumbs blog post. Mass Effect 2 has been tightly in focus for the gaming...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 125

by Jonathan Downin in Games826 days ago

Activision’s Bobby Kotick has been on the chatty side lately and let us know that Activision will be cutting down on music game releases. He also touched on the idea of a subscription-based Call of Duty. Whatever favor Mr. Kotick garnered with his first sentiment, was quickly lost on the guys with his second. LA Noir has been confirmed as a Fall release, but the guys skim over the fact that it will also be coming to Xbox 360. BioShock isn’t grabbing the group, and the extreme similarity to the 1st game is cited as the main reason for...

The Geekbox

The Geekbox: Episode 52

by Jon Cole in Games, TV827 days ago

The Geekbox starts off with plenty of television talk, with Lost’s return, Burn Notice’s continuation, and Smallville’s newfound freshness.  If you’re particularly wary of spoilers and haven’t checked out the season premiere of Lost, skip 7:30 – 38:00. Higgins has been playing some more Star Trek Online and it seems like Fitch might give it a go, after the idea of playing as a Ferengi piqued his interest.  Bioshock 2′s release captured Karen’s attention, driving her to go to a launch party.  Unfortunately, nobody else...

The Game Informer Show: Episode 16

by Derek Lavigne in Games827 days ago

First on tap this week is a discussion on the recently released Dante’s Inferno. Jeff Marchiafava and Phil Kollar, who both reviewed the game, are sitting in on this segment and spend most of the segment giving more insight into their scoring of the game. Jeff tries to reiterate the seemingly obvious that a 7 does not make the game terrible, although it seems that has been falling on deaf messageboard ears. Andy Reiner speaks up to disagree with the pair and says he has been enjoying the game so far, but Phil gives a few good reasons why the...

Giant Bombcast 02-09-2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games829 days ago

A new logo and new music starts off “Season 3″ of the Bombcast. With Brad out again this week, Dave Snider sits in the worth chair to keep the table full. Dave jumps in on the conversation right up front to discuss some differences between the console and PC editions of Mass Effect 2. Jeff discusses his time with Bioshock 2 and seems to enjoy the game while admitting it doesn’t quite live up to the first. Dave has also been playing a bunch of Darksiders which leads to the acknowledgment that often times, titles that simply have...

Nascar (what?) kicks things into high gear this week and the mention of the Super Bowl spawns a conversation about the much more interesting Puppy Bowl. Moving into games, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth sounds to be an interesting direction for the Ace Attorney series. Travis also talks about finding Mass Effect 1 saves online for import into Mass Effect 2. Mike talks about his trip to Vegas to see UFC Undisputed 2010 and then Justing talks about his B+ review of BioShock 2, which will be featured on this week’s Game Night....

The HotSpot

The HotSpot 02/09/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games829 days ago

Some serious love for BioShock 2 starts that discussion this week. The opinions fall on both sides, but the phrase ‘better than the first one’ is uttered several times. Dante’s Inferno doesn’t fair nearly as well with the guys labeling it as a complete direct rip of God of War. Sonic 4 doesn’t inspire much positivity either. Xbox Live service for the original Xbox is coming to an end and the indifference it palpable. A PSP iteration of the forthcoming PS3 racer, ModNation Racers, has been announced and the crew worries...

TRS 151

The Totally Rad Show – Episode 151: 12 Kinds

by Ross Adams in Games, Movies829 days ago

It’s disappointment all round for From Paris with Love, it’s a gunfight movie with poorly presented and uninteresting gunfights according to the TRS guys. They have pretty much nothing positive to say about the film, Alex goes as far as to say there are some laugh out loud story moments that weren’t intended as such. The other Avatar movie got a proper trailer for the Superbowl, with the love TRS has for the Last Airbender tv show they had to discuss this one. It has certainly got them all very excited, they all agree the effects...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 40

by Jon Cole in Games830 days ago

The Mobcast is a little disjointed this week, with Aaron intermittently playing some prerecorded clips from an interview he did with Bioshock 2’s Mellisa Miller and Hogarth De La Plante.  He asked them the same questions asked on the podcast, though, so the transitions aren’t too jarring. Anthony’s topic kicks things off, asking how gaming websites should balance resource intensive, long-form editorial and page-view grabbing top ten lists and the like.  Shoe finds that articles written for the nearly singular purpose of traffic are sometimes...

CastMedium Podcast 023 – 02.08.10

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, Tech830 days ago

It is a 2 man show this week with Erik out due to internet issues. Jon and I start this one with some skepticism about CO-OP moving to a live format. That leads into a discussion about the new EGM and Jon is ready to subscribe. Indifference about Dante’s Inferno kicks off the games segment, but we quickly move onto BioShock 2. No pre-orders have been placed yet, but we both admit that we will probably make the Steam purchase rather soon. Android finally gets multitouch and the Edge of Darkness may not be Lethal Weapon or Payback, but it still...
