Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 121

by Jonathan Downin in Games1017 days ago

1 vs. 100 has started showing up the top 10 games currently being played on Xbox 360.  It’s probably safe to assume that no one expected it to be such a hit when it was announced.  It seems like free games that bring the community together and offer prizes is something that will get people interested. This is the G.I. Joe episode, but that’s not saying much as almost every episode of Three Red Lights seems to be the G.I. Joe episode.  The guys have played the game and it scored a pretty horrible 5.8 on IGN.  It apparently has checkpoints...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 120

by KirePDX in Games1023 days ago

Even though Hilary is out this week, the TRL crew is still able to talk about cougars, 80′s pop culture, and do horrible impersonations while occasionally actually talking about 360 games.  There isn’t any agenda, and they cover a lot of random topics, but it’s an entertaining hour if you have the time. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is the only notable release for the 360 this week during its “Summer of Arcade” series.  But with the recent release of Blazblue, King of Fighters 12 and the older Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, none...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 119

by Jonathan Downin in Games1045 days ago

A Twitter rant takes up the first 10 minutes of the podcast.  Needless to say, the guys find the whole phenomena somewhat ridiculous. There is a bit of talk about Mass Effect 2 and how it will utilize saves from the first game.  This leads into a discussion about how nice it would be to have your saves stored on Xbox Live so that you could never lose them and they would always be available to you. The real draw here is some impressions done by Jason Ocampo.  You can’t help feeling a little bad for the guy. Covered topics and games: Halo...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 118

by Jonathan Downin in Games1051 days ago

Microsoft’s Kodu has been released.  If you are not familiar with this, it is a software suit that brings game creation to those who are not familiar with coding.  It still takes some dedication and it fairly rudimentary though, so don’t expect to be making the Call of Duty with this thing. The guys are talking a bit about Crackdown 2 in this episode and they reveal that they have an interview with the developer, Rufian Studios, going up today that twill have more information.  Get ready to collect those orbs. Although TRL is usually...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Ep. 117

by Jonathan Downin in Games1059 days ago

There is a lot of merger and acquisitions news this week.  Bethesda’s parent company, Zenimax Media, has  acquired id Software.  It’s a somewhat strange pair, but Zemimax says that they will allow id complete feedom.  Mythic has merged with BioWare with the doctors at the head of the studios.  Mythic is famouse for their MMOs so it would be safe to assume they will be helping with Star Wars: The Old republic. Hilary had a chance to see Transformers 2 and he doesn’t have too many nice things to say about.  This, of course,...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Ep. 115

by Jonathan Downin in Games1073 days ago

It’s been about a month since the last one, but we finally get another episode of Three Red Lights. The guys are of course covering E3 stuff, but as always, they meander about the topics quite a bit.  More then spending a lot of time on individual games, most of the conversation is based around where it looks like Microsoft is headin with their general Xbox strategy. There is a fair amount of Project Natal talk though.  All we can do is hope that Microsoft gets it out sooner rather than later so all the speculation can stop, but word is...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 114

by Jonathan Downin in Games1094 days ago

With Daemon Hatfield sitting in this week we get a very atypical Three Red Lights that actually contains comprehendable game discussion. Hilary has a few things to say about Bionic Commando and has more bad than good things to say about it.  Although IGN gave it a 8.0, he says that he would personally probably rate it a 7.0. In talking about E3 the guys discuss Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2.  They mention that all previews and screens of Alan Wake that have come out recently have been said to be old, so everything we see at E3 should be pretty fresh. ...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 113

by Jonathan Downin in Games1108 days ago

Charles Onyett has landed.  Wolverine is unavoidable among the gaming crowd.  No good sentiments about it here as usual.  How is that a movie this big with such a large budget can still have such horrible CG? There is a new retail Gears of War 2 collection titled “All Fronts Collection” that will include all DLC up to this point and many other extras.  It will not include an actual disc, only a code to download the featured content.  At a presumed $20 it is a pretty amazing deal, but a little hard to swallow for those that got the...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 112

by Jonathan Downin in Games1115 days ago

Now that the reorganization at IGN has taken place Charles Onyett is now on Xbox team, but don’t expect him on this one.  Unfortunately he couldn’t make it in on this one, hopefully we will get some Onyett next week.  He should be a great addition to the team. Erik Brudvig was in Manaco last week and get a chance to see Dead Rising 2.  His impressions are fairly positive overall and with the word of customizable weapons and having over 7000 zombies on screen at once the game sounds like a nice step-up from the original.  The somewhat...

E74 Podcast, Episode 111

by Jonathan Downin in Games1129 days ago

In “celebration” of the E74 issue the Three Red Lights crew has renamed their podcast to E74.  We will see if the name sticks, but that new podcast art looks amazing! (yes, you caught us, we made it.) Six Days in Fallujah gets some time here and we get some actual game impressions in addition to discussion on the issues involved.  Apparently the graphics are pretty dated with the destructibility of the environment looking especially suspect. There is an absolutely epic conversation about 80s and 90s sitcom spin-offs, character replacements...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 110

by Jonathan Downin in Games1136 days ago

The TRL crew has come around on Halo Wars and start off this week talking about it.  It sold pretty well but has not been a hot game when it comes to discussions so if you are a fan it’s nice to hear about. And the mystery continues.  Nate is still nowhere to be found and the guys are stilling saying he is “dead.”  Has he just not had time to come on the podcast or has he really left IGN?  Anybody know the truth? In talking about new Guitar Hero games the guys suggest a ZZ Top version.  It sounds like it could be incredible...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 109

by Jonathan Downin in Games1143 days ago

Some of the guys had a chance to see some video from Mass Effect 2.  According to the Bioware guys, Mass Effect provided them with a great base to build out the world and fix many of the technical issues that plagued the first one.  The word is also that the game will be more of a shooter experice.  Hopefully they don’t take out too many cool RPG elements. Yet more negative prospects for OnLive.  There are good points about bandwidth, but it is a re-hash of what every is saying. The interview with Tera Patrick is useless, but at least...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 108

by Jonathan Downin in Games1157 days ago

Nobody has anything positive to say about the prospect of Bioshock 2.  With a different team working on the second iteration and the premise sounding iffy it is understandable though.  Hopefully the first game’s art style remains intact at least. Nate is still mysteriously absent.  He must be really busy doing whatever he does outside of repeating people’s joke right after they say them. This week, join Erik Brudvig, Hilary Goldstein, David Clayman and Charles Onyett as we discuss the merits of BioShock 2 based off a few pages of...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 107

by Jonathan Downin in Games1163 days ago

Three Red Lights has accomplished something that they have only accomplished  a few times before, they released a podcast 2 weeks in a row.  Dare we hope for 3? With Resident Evil being released on Friday the guys have a lot to say about it.  They feel like it has gotten quite a ways away from what a traditional RE game was, but still fun overall. Fable III has been unofficially announced.  Apparently during the video game BAFTA awards in England, popular British personality Jonathan Ross revealed on his twitter that he had been asked to do...

Three Red Lights, Episode 106

by Jonathan Downin in Games1170 days ago

Three Red Lights has returned after a month away.  And the award for the most inconsistent podcast goes too– Breaking news here.  The TRL guys have received the exclusive on the release of the Dreamcast 2.  It it will be coming out on 9/9/09 with the launch title of The Beatles: Rock Band and the console will be shaped like a guitar.  Nate Ahearn deciphered this information out of Peter Moore saying “hello” to him in the EA offices.  Umm, yeah. Some excitement here over the forthcoming Three Red Lights developed Bedazzler...
