He doesn’t have too many kind words for the game, but Ryan H. pipes in with some defense for the “classic” game progression and mechanics. After a bit of E3 talk, the group moves on to a discussion about comics going digital. Ryan H. doesn’t see the trend as hurting paper book sales, and in fact argues that it is targeting a new consumer in a way that will drive traditional comic sales.

Surprise! It’s all about E3 this week. Ryan S. is in complete hater-pants mode this week. He didn’t like any of the motion control related stuff this year. Ryan H. also points out the poor translations of the Japanese publisher press conferences.
Karen is one of the lone sources of enthusiasm this week. Fitch tries to infuse some excitement, but the overall sense of pessimism prevails. Sorcery happens to spur some conversation, but the tone doesn’t change.

The cast kicks off with some Team Fortress talk, and then Fitch gets into just a few scant details surrounding his current dating situation. Ryan Scott stresses that it is not as fun as it may seem to attend the Expo and Ryan Higgins give some insight into what the press conferences are like for the “layman.”

A cast-light episode of the Geekbox results in a games-heavy first segment, leading with a game that Ryan considers his game of the year thus far, Super Mario Galaxy 2. Most everyone in the games press has similar opinions on the game and Ryan seems to follow suit, praising the glorious level design that made the first so popular. Karen manages to dig up one negative point though, highlighting the arbitrary method of progression in the overworld (requiring a certain number of stars to open new galaxies).

Iron Man 2 talk opens up this week’s Geekbox, with Greg Ford and the Ryan’s feeling far more positively about it than Fitch. Fitch wasn’t too sure about the “overly quippy” dialogue, comparing it to Fast and Furious levels of schlock. The other guys don’t agree, though they do regard it a little less than the original Iron Man film.
