As always after some off-topic chats about Greg Fords new sports game podcast and Phil moving it’s onto actual game talk, starting with Shank. Everyone but Phil got a chance to try out the game so they share their thoughts on it, first up is the style. From the visual style to the extremely impressive animation Shank certainly looks amazing, however the one part of the presentation that doesn’t impress CJ and Sewart is the voice acting. Greg Ford is really impressed by the very deep combat system which he likens to a big budget action...
Following on from Gamers With Jobs hitting its 200th episode it’s Player One’s turn this week and it’s a much longer show than usual as a result. The guys kick off as usual by talking about the games they’ve been playing, kicking off with a staple of Player One. That being games you won’t hear about on other podcasts, this one being Ys Seven, although Phil actually spends more time describing the contents of the collectors edition he purchased than the game itself.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light capped off the...
After a brief discussion of Greg Sewarts new glasses and his lamenting getting old the POP guys move swiftly onto the Bioshock Infinite announcement. Everyone is excited by the prospect of Irrational coming back to the franchise as all 4 hosts were big fans of the original Bioshock .
A few iPhone games kick off the what you been playing segment, starting with The Incident. It involved avoiding random falling objects (using tilt control) and then using those same objects to get higher while still avoiding more falling obstacles. Sewart also played...
Continuing the trend of Summer of Arcade games kicking off game talk, this weeks Player One starts with a discussion of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. No one actually bought the game but they at least tried the demo, it seems to be a hard game to “get” with the guys not really understanding what the point of it is. The multiplayer focus doesn’t really appeal to any of the crew, Phil especially. As it often does talking about Summer of Arcade leads to yet another discussion about pricing of XBLA games, 1200 points as a default...
After the usual opening 5 minutes of tangents, mostly related to last weeks Phil and CJ-less show, it’s onto game talk. Well almost, as CJ and Greg Sewart discuss Playstaion Plus which they both subscribed too. They both seem pleased with the service, while the understand the subscription nature makes the “free” games a bit of an off prospect they think they’re getting good value for the money. On the subject of value the discussion moves to the announcent of Kinect’s pricing which has instantly meant no one of the...
Greg Sewart kicks off this weeks show by talking about his newest purchase of a Xbox 360 S, stories of file transfering and downloads follow. He and the other guys are miffed about the upcoming Destination Arcade app on Xbox Live, Greg and anyone outside the US won’t even have access to it because it is restricted to US only. On top of that it will only be available for the duration of Summer of Arcade. This leads to the crew discussing which of the games in the promotion they will be getting. CJ plans to get them all, which is no great shock,...
This weeks episode starts off with a bit more focus than usual as CJ brings some news items to the table. Kicking off with Blizzards plan to make real names required for posting on their forums, despite the fact they will no longer be going through with the plan the guys discuss what it might mean. While the accountability factor is a major plus Sewart brings up the obvious security concerns with peoples real names being freely available.
Telltale recently put out a fairly extensive poll asking fans what they might want to see in the Back to the...
Phil managed to pick up Blur for a rather impressive $10, he isn’t sure if he wants to keep it so he lets CJ and Greg Sewart convince him to do so. They appear to be successful and the plan seems to be to get in a game night with POP forum goers/listeners. Continuing their tradition of talking about games you properly won’t hear about on other podcasts, Cj and Phil picked up the DSiWare game A Kappa’s Trail. They both start off by saying how disappointed they are that the games on the service really don’t get a mention anywhere...
It’s a slightly more structured show than usual this week, with CJ apparently wanting to keep the podcast at about an hour in length. The plan was to talk about Red Dead Redemption but the guys quickly get sidetracked talking about Pac-Man’s 30th Anniversary and Google’s tribute to that. Things get back on track after everyone states what their favourite version of the game is.
When the Red Dead talk does get going it’s pretty much praise all round. Everyone mostly agrees that John Marston is almost instantly an easier character...
Last weeks episode is now a “lost” episode with it being declared too bad to publish. Things are back to normal though with the show getting derailed before the introdcutions are even finished. CJ makes mention of a Mega Man MMO that may be in the works, leading to a short discussion about why the guys just aren’t likley to play an MMO of any kind.
The game discussion this week is dominated by 3D Dot Game Heroes, which all 3 hosts have been playing this week. The game allows you to create a custom character in the pixelart style,...
This weeks episode was delayed slighty due to a last minute tehcnical hitch, judging from the show this hitch involved guest Chris Baker‘s audio. His audio is inconsistent throughout, constantly dipping in volume, it may be a bit hard for some to take. However this weeks show is an especially hilarious one so powering through is probably your best bet. As “Cbake” works for Marvel what you been playing unsurprisingly kicks off with him talking, very vaguely, about some upcoming Marvel game. Namely Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Spiderman:...
As episodes of Player One go it’s a fairly jam packed one this week. The first two thirds of the show is made up of whatcha been playing, alot is the answer to that question. After the revelation that Greg Sewart watched every single episode of The Tester Phil kicks things off properly by talking about the new season of Sam & Max. He is very impressed, rather than rest on their laurels it seems Telltale have gone out of their way to make lots of smart interface and design changes to keep the games fresh.
Old school arcade fun is the jist...
Since last week Greg Sewart has finished Dante’s Inferno but his thoughts haven’t changed much. He wasn’t overly fond of the grotesque design of everything and from a general gameplay standpoint he cites God of War 2 as a much superior game. The XBLA release of Final Fight gets some love, the various visual options including a impressive arcade cabinet replication take up most of the discussion. Magic Sword barely gets a mention but its inclusion isn’t enough to make any of the guys pay the 800 points.
CJ and Sewart are at...
A somewhat offbeat episode of Player One this week. With few new games to discuss alot of the show goes to some odd comedic places. There is some game talk though, firstly from Greg Ford who joined the Bitmob community for a night of Modern Warfare 2. They were playing on the contentiously priced “Stimulus” map pack, while he didn’t pay for the maps Ford is of the feeling that they aren’t worth the price.
Phil delivers his usual bout of games you won’t hear about on most other podcasts, kicking off with some DLC for...
CJ is now a married man, Phil and Greg Sewart both attended the wedding so the guys took the opportunity to record a “live” show. As a result the quality is a little below the usual. For obvious reasons alot of the show is taken up by wedding talk and random stories of the other guys marriages/weddings.
The DSi XL came out last week, so course CJ bought one. The guys are pretty surprised by how well games scale on the screen, they look pretty good by all accounts. Greg finished God of War 3, he and guest Mike Rank discuss the ending...
