Game Scoop! Podcast: Comic-Con Preview

by Jon Cole in Games670 days ago

It’s Game Scoop!’s fourth birthday and a loving listener compiled some fascinating data regarding the history of this podcast, namely the amount of times each person has been on the show and what their debut episodes were.  After wistfully delving into those numbers, Greg talks a little bit about his experience with Hulu Plus, which he’s been more impressed with than the janky, disc-required PS3 Netflix experience.  The guys somehow talk about Buffy, Angel, and Lost before Greg talks about his Comic-Con plans. Daemon and Hilary...

Game Scoop! Podcast: Bewb Flash

by Jon Cole in Games676 days ago

Dead Space: Ignition receives a little bit of confusion and a lot of criticism from the Game Scoop! crew, due to the fact that this paid downloadable game taking place between Dead Space and Dead Space 2 dodges the gameplay of the main series and instead plans to implement a “comic book action” style of play.  Daemon grills this change the most, predicting that it’ll be little more than a series of quick-time events.  Greg is a little more cautiously optimistic, though, as the first game earned this DLC episode a little bit of...

Game Scoop! Podcast: Red Dead Consideration

by Jon Cole in Games685 days ago

Game Scoop! reports in with a short show this week, welcoming a rare appearance of Anthony Gallegos as well.  NPDs start things off and Red Dead Redemption unsurprisingly leads the charge.  Anthony makes a point that the performance of RDR is exemplary because it doesn’t have a number in the title, thus making a direct comparison to its Rockstar peer Grand Theft Auto 4 a little useless. The latest PS3 firmware update has introduced several news features to the console, including new photo display features and Move support.  Most importantly...

Game Scoop! Podcast: E3 Adventures

by Jon Cole in Games689 days ago

Game Scoop! returns after an E3 hiatus with a retrospective episode tackling the past week’s events.  Many of the topics they hit on were previously discussed on several other podcasts, such as the odd Kinect/Cirque du Soleil announcement and Playstation Move party. Knockin’ Boots returns with some flair, welcoming special guest Jimmy Fallon over the phone to talk about the ladies.  He also gets a chance to weigh in on the Shark vs Octopus debate of the ages, hopefully leading to a clear end to the warring states era of IGN. Listener...

Game Scoop! Podcast: Metal Gear Robs the Cradle

by Jonathan Downin in Games707 days ago

It’s a packed episode this week. Greg kicks things off with a crazy dream story. Daemon then gets into Rock Band 3 before Greg shares his love for the latest Metal Gear. He gave it a 9.5 and this leads in an argument with Nate about the state of PSP and its purpose for existence. The embargo is up and the guys share about what they saw of Deus Ex: Human Revolution a few weeks ago. A funny story comes out of it about an over-the-phone explanation of how the game’s use of black and gold results in a game that looks like nothing else out...

Game Scoop!: The Infamous Podcast

by Jonathan Downin in Games712 days ago

This one kicks-off with Greg’s displeasure with concept art that has come out for Infamous 2. He has some serious issues with the leads characters outfit. After a bit of Guitar Hero bashing, Daemon gets into his love for Joe Danger. Alpha Protocol also gets its requisite harsh words. In email the guys touch on a multitude of topics, but this one is especially notable because Greg has another classic story. This one revolves around him trying to deal with a non-existent burglar and almost stabbing a cat. Plenty of dating advice and Knockin’...

Game Scoop! Podcast: Early E3 Scoops

by Jon Cole in Games717 days ago

After a one week hiatus, Game Scoop! is back with a pre-E3 episode of epic proportions.  Some of the biggest news this week has been the rumored price of Microsoft’s soon-to-be renamed Project Natal, namely a $150 price point for Natal alone and $300 for a Natal/Xbox Arcade bundle.  This news isn’t met with much enthusiasm among the scoop crew, most of them commenting that the sweet spot would definitely be $100 or less. Sony’s premium PSN service has stirred up the press, with some people praising Sony for promising to keep...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 163

by Jon Cole in Games733 days ago

Game Scoop! starts off covering the NPD’s, which are quite uninteresting on multiple levels.  News that the PS2 will no longer continue to be tracked by the NPD group isn’t particularly surprising for anyone and the predictability continues with the newfound success of Splinter Cell: Conviction. EA’s new Online Pass program has been faced with lots of controversy, which is reflected by the complete divergence between Daemon and Greg in favor and Charles and Hilary in opposition.  Daemon makes the apt comparison to the Cerberus...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 162

by Jon Cole in Games740 days ago

This week’s Game Scoop! starts off with impressions of some recently released games, namely Alan Wake and Lost Planet 2.  The former has garnered a lot of attention from the games press and Daemon says that it’s his second favorite game of the year thus far, after Mass Effect 2.  Lost Planet 2, unfortunately, hasn’t enjoyed similar praises; Arthur Gies’s review of the game was hardly complementary, saying that it improves on the graphics but doesn’t learn many other lessons from the mistakes of the first game. Knockin’...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 161

by Jon Cole in Games746 days ago

Game Scoop is back this week, starting off the conversation with news that Activision has received the publishing rights to Bungie’s next big franchise for ten years.  On a similar note, the guys share their opinions of Halo: Reach, with Nate clearly having played the most out of the bunch.  He’s not totally sure about many of the new features, like the Sprint ability, but ultimately comes off as optimistic. Sony’s in a little bit of trouble for taking Linux support out of their PS3′s, under assault from a class-action...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 160

by Jon Cole in Games756 days ago

Devon Snethon joins the Scoop crew this week, showing that the IGN guys are always receptive to inviting fans onto the show.  At the top of the show, Ryan talks a little bit about the Reach beta.  The game seems to be an amalgamation of the more classic Halo gameplay and most recent games, bringing back fall damage and the powerful pistol as well as introducing new elements like advanced character customization. Listener mail takes up the bulk of show, starting off with each of the guys offering what they got their college degrees in.  Inevitably,...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 159

by Jon Cole in Games761 days ago

This week’s Game Scoop! was recorded on Saturday, so expect a little bit more hilarity than usual.  Things start off in a fairly familiar manner, covering the past month’s NPDs and the dominance of God of War III and Pokemon SoulSilver/HeartGold among the software ranks.  The DSi XL came out strong, bolstering the DS numbers and breaking ahead of the Sony PSP. Daemon managed to dig up a tweet from Ochre, a musician who apparently leaked the existence of LittleBigPlanet 2 by saying he worked on the game’s soundtrack.  With this...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 158

by Jonathan Downin in Games769 days ago

The IGN crew attended a Konami event a few nights ago and they saw a few games, but they don’t seem overly excited about what was there. The Moder Warfare 2 Stimulus Package map pack has sold over 2.5 million units on Xbox 360 alone and Sony’s newest  marketing approach continues to do well. The iPad has swept the IGN offices as well, but not everyone is blown away at the gaming prospects. Apple’s recently announced Xbox Live-like Game Center does cause a little bit more excitement though. A round of Knockin’ Boots and responses...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 157

by Jonathan Downin in Games782 days ago

PAX East just wrapped up and this episode of Game Scoop! was recorded in front of a live audience. This isn’t the traditional show with a slightly different cast and an extended user question segment. The crew discusses some of their PAX East experiences at the beginning and touch on a few games including Red Dead Redemption. The question segment takes up a large portion of the show, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The questions run the gamut of topics and they are good for the most part. Ryan Scott is on the panel, but he...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 156

by Jonathan Downin in Games790 days ago

The Rebel FM infiltration of IGN is now complete. Anthony Gallegos is on Game Scoop! and with this comes news that he, along with Arthur, has transitioned over to the IGN mothership. It’s a fast-paced show this week with rumors of USB storage being enable for the Xbox 360 via a spring dashboard update. While this would be a welcomed feature, Ryan is reasonably annoyed about the arbitrary 16Gb cap. This can only be due to Microsoft wanting to protect hard drive sales. Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition is out and this has the group pining for an...
