Okay people, this is it, for real. This is the last episode of the CastMedium Podcast. Not too much explanation needed other than we are taking this show into new territory. Game Thing Daily, and the recently launch Tech Thing Daily, are where we are doing our thing now, so it only makes sense to do this thing, there.

We will still be doing a weekly podcast, and it will still be Jon, Erik and myself — just a little different. The CastMedium Podcast is transmogrifying into Podcast Thing Weekly (credit goes to Jon for this bit of genius). We are still not quite sure how and where we will post the show, but the feed will stay the same, so no need to re-subscribe. The new show will appear in your podcast catcher of choice as it always has.

Onto this week’s topics:

Bastion

From Dust

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

Jon’s PSPgo purchase

FemSheps

Google+

Incoherent OS X Lion ramblings

New TWiT digs

We’ll be back, better than ever next week, so stay tuned, we are just getting started!

If you missed the raw podcast chunk from last weeks scrapped show, here’s your chance to catch it. (NSFW)

Also, keep on eye on Jon’s blog over the next few days for a forthcoming review of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

Erik, in his typical curmudgeony fashion, is not in on G+, and he finds it difficult to muster any enthusiasm about a new social network.

Since we record on Tuesday nights, we missed Facebook’s announcement on Wednesday. Luckily for you, Jon and I did an extra 10 minutes on Facebook’s new addition of video chat and tacked it onto the end of this one. You’re welcome.

Note: Google+ is now open to all with a Google account.

Google annual I/O conference is taking place this week and there have been some big announcements. We have all of the day 1 stuff covered here, including Google Music Beta, YouTube movie rentals, Ice Cream Sandwich and Google TV.

Google Music Beta is the most interesting of this bunch and it is pretty comparable to Amazon’s Cloud storage music offering. YouTube movie rentals is also an interesting development, but it doesn’t seem to offer much over many of the other rental services that are already out there.

Get ready for a romp of a show this week because we are hitting 2 huge stories. First up is the PSN debacle and all that is surrounding this situation. We get through the details quick and focus on the fallout that may follow in relation to not only PSN users, but also the development community. The “Welcome Back Package” also garners a few harsh words. Then it is on to the Wii 2, purported code named Project Cafe. I am overly excited at the rumors, so Jon and Erik bring the more pragmatic responses. Erik closes the show with some HBOgo and Hulu Plus on Xbox 360 impressions.

This was one of the most fun episodes we have ever recorded, so give it a listen!

We have been pretty tech-heavy recently, and that trend continues this week. Apple took it upon themselves to dominate the post-CES tech space with a sizable update to their MacBook Pro line and a move to outclass the forthcoming tablet competition.

It was high time that I upgrade my machine so I picked up a 2.2 quad core i7 15″ with 1680×1050 (yeah, we messed up the resolution in the podcast) screen upgrade. It’s a fine machine and we touch on the upgrades in the recent Sandy Bridge iteration.

The big news is the iPad 2. It seems like a great iteration on the orignal iPad, but is it enough to get Erik and Jon ready to buy? There is only one way to know. Are you interested in the iPad 2? How about the 9x graphics performance??? Let us know in the comments.

We will hit games next week– we promise.

Chris Ziegler joins the show this week to start off the conversation with his experience with the new Android Market, which allows you to buy apps via the web on your PC and push the purchases onto your phone over the air. While that’s certainly a welcome change, the guys talk about problems with app discovery that could have been better addressed with this service. Google also showed off the Motorola Xoom in a little more detail than at CES, highlighting apps that were designed specifically for Honeycomb in particular.

The Motorola Atrix is probably Android’s best candidate for an “iPhone Killer”, offering cutting edge hardware that outclasses Apple on its own. On the other hand, AT&T has recently announced that the Laptop Dock for the device will only be subsidized if you sign up for tethering, which makes absolutely no sense to the Engadget crew. Either way, Josh is fairly confident that this’ll be the phone that takes him away from the iPhone, which I’m sure we’ll see in the future.

The iPhone 4 on Verizon manages to be a quality phone despite being on another carrier, though Verizon’s position on downscaling video and bandwidth for power users depresses everyone a fair bit. The show wraps up with some news on Palm/HP’s upcoming plans for webOS, including a product that seems reminiscent of the Atrix.

The latest episode of Tekzilla starts off with a veritable smorgasbord of topics, ranging from MacWorld gadgets, iPod warranties, and the situation in Egypt. The biggest piece of news by far is the recall of Intel’s new Sandy Bridge chipset, which is caused primarily by rogue SATA 3.0 ports. PC Perspective’s Ryan Shrout joins the show to fill us in on the details, which revolves around the fact that the problem is on the motherboards and that mobo manufacturers will be responsible for contact with consumers.

Veronica got a chance to try out the latest Dell Streak 7, which takes the poor idea of a 5-inch tablet and upsizes it to better compete with devices like the iPad or Galaxy Tab. The device is offered on T-Mobile via their ’4G’/HSPA+ network and offers a lot of interesting hardware choices like an SD card slot for additional storage and a solid 5MP rear-facing camera for taking video. Unfortunately, stuff like a low-resolution screen and the compromise of a skinned Android 2.2 interface drags the experience a little, but Veronica seems quite satisfied nonetheless.

Alex Lindsay of Pixel Corps and MacBreak Weekly fame joins the show to give some insight on the state of consumer-grade 3D video camcorders. Clearly there are quite a few options if you’ve got a nice budget to flex, but the market is still fledgling and companies are trying out quite a few methods. The show wraps up with some viewer questions.

Intel’s big recall over broken SandyBridge chips! Is your new PC Hosed? Don’t Panic! Making your own 3D video part one: The cameras. Are. So. Cheap. If you’ve got $400, you’ve got a 3D HD camera and Alex Lindsay is here to show you how to use it! How to kickstart your business venture into high gear! Find out how to search for every Twitter Post you’ve ever made. eSATA to USB explained part three.
