Active Time Babble XXIX: Kindom Hearts & The 2011 Preview

by Ross Adams in Games378 days ago

It’s a new year so Kat Bailey decides to try something a little different for this first Active Time Babble of 2011. The first segment of the show is a solo affair with Kat talking about some games she thinks might not get alot of attention. Kingdom Hearts Re:coded and Super Robot Taisen Z2 are the games for this first go round, she also fielded questions from twitter regarding the games so this segment is mostly Kat answering said questions. The idea behind this part of the show is solid and Kat handles it well. Kat is joined by Thierry “Scooter”...

Drunken Gamers Radio 1.9.2011

by Nikko Kusanagi in Games, Misc, Movies, TV378 days ago

It’s the first episode since the DGR Daryl awards.  John, Moe, and Hilden brought you their favorite games of 2010 last week.  This week however, they’re simply talking about their favorite things in general for the year including movies, TV, and other hot topics. Drunk dials and mailbag as always starts out the show, then they jump right into talking about 2010.  What impressed them, disappointed them, or accomplished neither. Random Retro Review continues.  This week’s game is Jurassic Park (SNES).  Did they love it, hate...

Tekzilla 181 – CES 2011!

by Jon Cole in Tech379 days ago

Patrick’s voice is shot from a very long CES, but luckily Veronica holds things together to barely dip into all of the big news. Tablets and 4G were just about everywhere, dominating much of the coverage through Motorola’s efforts and the newly revealed Android Honeycomb tablet-focused OS. Microsoft had a big conference, revealing many new features for the Kinect as well as the big sales of the device. Apple rounded out the week, with the Mac App Store and Verizon iPhone. Samsung introduced their 7000 and 8000 series televisions, which...

Episode 48 – Parole Set for 2/10 – 1/12/2011

by Alex Martin in Movies, Tech379 days ago

With CES content still being published on Tested, Will, Norm, and Gary start this podcast with a summary of some of the show’s standout products. These include the Motorola Atrix PC/Android-phone hybrid, Lady Gaga’s camera glasses, Sony’s 3D headset, and Toshiba’s glassesless 3D TVs. They also look at why no one trend emerged as a highlight of the show. Before moving on to the news, Gary’s research (for a science fiction project) into Lagrangian points prompts an interesting, if inexpert, physics discussion. The biggest...

CastMedium Podcast 067 – 01.13.11

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Tech, TV379 days ago

This week is all about CES. The show starts with a few mentions of the great coverage from the Engadget Podcast and This is Only a Test. Starting off our own discussion is the Razor Switchblade. Then it’s on to Intel’s latest and greatest in the processor space, Sandy Bridge. Motorola then grabs the last 2 big CES topics. The Verizon iPhone is now official, but outside of providing more options to consumers, it doesn’t offer too much to get excited about. The Mac App store also gets a quick mention before moving onto to our media...

Behind the Screened Door 01-10-2011

by Jon Cole in Movies, TV380 days ago

Comic Vine’s Tony Guerrero joins this week’s Behind the Screened Door, guiding the opening of the show towards comic book fare with some talk about The Cape. All of the guys watched the pilot episode and seemed mostly unimpressed, pointing out the various plot holes, overly dramatic scenes, and lack of solid characterization for the titular character. Alex capitalizes on Tony’s appearance early in the show to cover some comic related news, including the idea of a Wonder Woman television show and the most promising comic film of...

Jeff Gertsmann returns this week, with tales of go karting during his break. Before any game talk Vinny and Ryan discuss the movie Predators that they recently watched. Which leads onto a discussion of what Predator society might be like, surely there has be be an Costumer Service Predator? Brad regrets bringing up Tron: Evolution again as he learns it inevitably leads to discussion of Tron: Evolution which the guys agree is a bad game that could easily have been much better. Vinny talks about his varying emotions in relation to Dead Rising 2, he...

Mobcast 87: 3DS, 2010 trends, 2011 predictions, embarrassing moments, and more

by Alex Martin in Games382 days ago

Peter Galvin (who writes about games for a local San Francisco paper)  joins Shoe, Demian, and Brett this week for a mixed bag of topics. The 3DS is back in the news, and Shoe asks if they’re looking forward to it. The technology is really something you have to see to understand, and it looks like a lot of remakes and sequels are coming for it, so it’s hard to get excited about. Demian wonders if it might be the last dedicated console for handheld games; Sony look to be readying a PlayStation phone, and smartphone games are hugely popular. Peter...

Player One Podcast – Episode 220 (01/10/11) – Thrusting and Rubbing

by Ross Adams in Games382 days ago

This weeks episode of the Player One Podcast was filmed in front of a live studio audience. In what may be a regular occurence this weeks episode was live streamed, as such there are a few references to said stream and the chat that went with it. CJ kicks off the game talk with Assassins Creed Brotherhood, although he has played a bit of Assassins Creed 2 it didn’t grab him so he skipped over it. Brotherhood however has grabbed him, it reminds him of the original Crackdown with it’s many hidden things around the enviroment. He also...

Rebel FM: Episode 88 — 01/04/11

by Alex Martin in Games383 days ago

IGN Editor Jim Reilly joins for this 2010-retrospective podcast with Anthony, Arthur, and Ryan. First, though, they look back at the games they’ve played this week. Anthony starts with the PlayStation Move components of Auditorium and Heavy Rain. Jim jumps in the middle of that to talk Oblivion, which he has just started in the midst of Elder Scrolls V news. Arthur is puzzled at Bejeweled 3′s weird faux-epic aesthetic. He’s also got impressions on Mass Effect 2′s downloadable missions (not including Lair of the Shadow Broker). Ryan’s...

Game Scoop! Podcast: Free Copies of Dragon Age 2

by Jon Cole in Games384 days ago

CES is big news in the tech industry, but it seems that the conference still doesn’t offer anything particularly interesting to the gaming-focused crowd. Sony largely danced around any rumors of the PSP Phone or PSP2 while Microsoft flaunted 8 million Kinect units shipped, much to Daemon’s chagrin. Avatar Kinect was also announced, which appears to be little more than a 360-branded version of PlayStation Home. Daemon played ilomilo and has fairly positive opinions on the game, but Kristine’s review of Microbot steals the most spotlight....

The Engadget Podcast Show 002: CES 2011 Part 2 – 01.06.2011

by Jon Cole in Games, Tech385 days ago

If you thought day negative 2/Engadget Podcast Show 001 market a day of tablets, the guys are quick to say that say negative one/Engadget Podcast Show 002 easily surpasses it. Sony opens things up, presenting the Xperia Arc Android smartphone running the new 2.3/Gingerbread version of the OS. They also reveal their new Bloggie line of camcorders, one of which offers a 1080p 3D recording mode and playback screen. Mobile devices dominate the middle segment of the show, starting off with AT&T’s 4G data plans and future devices. The HTC Desire...

Irrational Behavior 8: Immigrants and Natives

by Jonathan Downin in Games385 days ago

We finally get Chris Remo’s first take on the Irrational Behavior podcast, and it’s as good as ever. This one kicks-off with Ken Levine talking a bit about the beginning of Irrational Games and how the development culture is different from the bigger studio he came from. The focus then moves on to the hiring process at the studio. Chris bypassed the traditional interview hiring method, so he gets a couple of guys in to discuss their interviews, and how they go about finding talent these days. The lessons of game design and the value...
