Very tired, and live from a Las Vegas hotel room, Will, Norm, and Matt (with others in the background) report from the first day of CES. Except it’s a Whiskey Media live stream, so it’s long and unfocussed, and the stream cuts out in the middle of one of Norm’s stories.
They start with LG’s smart microwaves and washing machines. LG also showed a powerful Optimus 2X “superphone” and some 3DTVs.
Intel have satisfied Warner Bros. with DRM on their Sandy Bridge chips, so we should see official HD movie downloads coming from them, and Valve’s Gabe Newell was trotted out to talk about the gaming capabilities of these new CPUs.
Nvidia are pushing ARM processors, for phones and LG’s ridiculous washing machines, and some attractive Lenovo laptops. One of these can be detached from its keyboard to become an Android tablet, which they say looked to run smoothly.
Samsung showed off the Galaxy Player — a Galaxy S smartphone without a cell radio.
Panasonic blinded show-goers with their exceedingly bright TVs, which also run apps. This does not impress Will. Neither do their 3D camcorders, which could make nauseating home-movies.
Finally, the team focus on the games aspect of Windows Phone 7. Microsoft showed Games Room emulating arcade and classic-console games and Fable Coin Golf, which integrates with Fable 3.
Covered topics: CES 2011, LG, Intel, Nvidia, Samsung, Panasonic, Microsoft.
In the first of our nightly CES podcast/live video streams, Will, Norm, Matt, and pretty much everyone else here talk about the day’s press conferences, including info from LG, Intel, Nvidia, Samsung, Lenovo, Panasonic, and Microsoft. Also, Norm tells a story three times, because the stream kept dropping. (This is the audio-only archive of the 1/5/2010 late night live stream)
