This Week in Tech unintentionally held a sort of TWiT Reunion episode, welcoming many of the show’s founding members for an excellent episode. Conversation kicks off with the big picture question of how big companies manage to hire excellent employees and how that affects the seemingly open people faucet between players like Facebook, Google, and Microsoft. In other news, a recent case on software resale has been ruled on by the Ninth Circuit of Appeals and it’s not looking good for digital content used sales. Furthermore, it’s difficult to say what implications this will have on goods that aren’t digital or even on libraries.
Google’s latest move on the search space is Google Instant and nobody’s quite sure how useful the service might be. Since everyone tends to use Chrome or a search bar, it seems like Instant might be a red herring to simply keep Google the most relevant search player. Google is making a bigger push into the video content space with the Google TV, which remains more promising than Apple TV among the TWiT crowd due to the fact that it allows diversified a la carte consumption of television and movies.
The show closes out with some speculation as to how different hardware manufacturers will manage to survive as they offer parallel video experiences in different ways.
