Rebel FM is intact this week, but sans-Jeff Green. The newly-unemployed writer is on a podcast tour but couldn’t make an expected appearance.
Matt starts the game talk with Civilization 4: Warlords. He’s got tips on how to win a cultural victory.
Anthony and Tyler have been playing a fantasy-themed Civ — Elemental: War of Magic. Circumstances converged to force it to launch broken, and it is so inaccessible Stardock are to patch in a tutorial. Despite its significant flaws, both are loving it.
Tyler calls Mafia 2 a “linear open world game.” But that’s OK, because it uses its tight structure and quality acting to tell its story well.
According to Arthur, Dead Rising works best as a budget game. Fortunately, that’s what Case Zero is — it packs instant gratification of mowing down crowds of zombies into a cheap, small package.
Arthur’s also reviewed Bioshock 2′s Minerva DLC. It adds interesting back-story to a sequel he wasn’t that thrilled by.
The letters section this week is a big one — about half the show. They discuss high-school pranks, expectations’ effects on reviews, hetero life-mates, the Xbox Live price increase, and vegan assholes.
Covered games and topics: Civilization 4, Elemental: War of Magic, Mafia 2, Bioshock 2 DLC, review bias, Xbox Live price increase.
This week we’re not joined by Jeff Green, because I ruined it. Meanwhile, we do manage to discuss Elemental, Dead Rising: Case Zero, BioShock 2′s Minerva’s Den DLC, and more, then your letters. We also talk about what we’ll be doing at PAX. VIVA SEATTLE.
