As always after some off-topic chats about Greg Fords new sports game podcast and Phil moving it’s onto actual game talk, starting with Shank. Everyone but Phil got a chance to try out the game so they share their thoughts on it, first up is the style. From the visual style to the extremely impressive animation Shank certainly looks amazing, however the one part of the presentation that doesn’t impress CJ and Sewart is the voice acting. Greg Ford is really impressed by the very deep combat system which he likens to a big budget action game like God of War.
Sewart tried out the Mafia II demo and it has sold him on the game, although he’s going to wait till a less busy time to get it. He came to the realisation that starting with Other M we’re on a fairly packed release schedule right up until the end of the year.
There was a release for the Wii’s Virtual Console last week, a rarity these day, but Phil mentions it because it is a Metroid style game which is a big part of this weeks episode. Ufouria is the game in question, it has apparently been called one of the best games on NES. Phil gives it some praise but neither he or CJ has played enough to comment too much on it.
After the regular game discussion it’s onto the return of Player Ones Game Club, Super Metroid is the game being discussed in this episode. Needless to say if you have somehow not played Metroid or heard about the ending and such you may want to avoid this section. Otherwise it’s an interesting discussion about a game many people consider one of the best ever made.
This week! On this eve of the release of Metroid Other M we talk mostly about Super Metroid. But mixed in there there’s also Ufouria: The Saga, Shank, Mafia II and more!
