Adam Kempanaar is joined by Michael Phillips for this week’s episode of Filmspotting for the review of Animal Kingdom. While Michael admits that he internally compares this film to something like Goodfellas, he doesn’t want to shoulder it with that particular execution of the crime drama. Unlike Scorsese’s style, director David Michôd tries to capture a seemingly more realistic look at the situation, with the “protagonist” not really having the same natural charisma as Ray Liotta. The guys have a lot of good to say about the film, comparing it favorably to the well-liked A Prophet all the way through.
Listener feedback provides a little more insight into some of Duvall’s best performances (covered in last week’s top five) and the guys skip over the DVD segment due to a severe lack of notable releases. This week’s top five lists favorite Australian films in honor of their earlier review of Animal Kingdom, highlighting titles like Mad Max, The Year My Voice Broke, Samson and Delilah, and Babe.
