It’s finally here, this is it, the last “The Idle Thumbs Podcast” episode. Things will never be the same without this semi-regular broadcast about video games, but not just video games, also Jeff Goldblum appreciation.
The last show starts with a bit of discussion about Bioshock Infinite and what its reveal potentially says about the meaning of the Bioshock name. Chris briefly touches on Kane & Lynch 2 before the group moves on to Lara Croft and the lack of an equally sexy Lara counterpart in the game. A few words on the lack of good art design in Super Mario Galaxy 2 leads in to emails.
There are just a few emails this week, but the yield some meaty discussions about game design. Chris talks about top-down game design and the conversation then moves on to how the scope of a game world has a large impact on the mechanics and expectations of that given world. Shortcomings of the depth of the Mass Effect 2 mythos end the show.
Note: There will be a PAX Prime Idle Thumbs release, so stay tuned for one last parting taste in a few weeks.
Covered games and topics: Bioshock Infinite, Fallout, Kane & Lynch 2, Lara Croft, Mario Galaxy 2, evolution of gameplay, small vs. large scope design (sims), board games, Mass Effect 2
As Chris packs for Boston and we switch off the lights, the Idle Thumbs Podcast finishes up with a bunch of talk about video games, interspersed with loosely related distractions and stories. Thanks for listening!
