1UP’s replacement for 4 Guys 1UP is finally getting consistent. If you haven’t been catching this one since its inception, the main focus here is news. Ray Barnholt hosts with regulars, Justin Haywald and Matt Leone, and the show is fast, focused on volume, and full of bickering, but that not necessarily a bad thing.

Bioware’s announcement of Mass Effect 2 heading to PS3 starts the show, and the general feeling is that this is a good thing. Microsoft is re-imagining their flight simulator series with Microsoft Flight, and the guys expect a more casual approach to the flying experience. Insomnic has a new Rachet & Clank game in the works, but no one seems to care too much.

Ray is excited about the forthcoming Virtua Tennis 4, and the crew quickly moves on to discuss a myriad of Japanese titles, including the recently announced Xbox 360 exclusive Gun Loco from SquareEnix. A few bit of news lead into a guessing game derived from an old issue of EGM to finish the show.

Covered games and topics: Mass Effect 2 PS3, MS Flight, Ratchet & Clank: All for One, Resistance 3, Virtua Tennis 4, Gun Loco, Rock Band 3, Portal 2, random news

Gamescom news leads this week’s show, as Ray, Matt, and Justin jet through the expo’s various announcements, including Microsoft’s new PC games, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance 3, Virtua Tennis, and more, plus the heap of release dates for the next few months (Portal 2! Donkey Kong!), the weird new Atlus game Catherine, and at the end of it all, a good old-fashioned guessing game.

  1. This episode was fine. One thing of merit about In this Thread is that, at least as of late, they seem to be sticking to video game news only as opposed to what they've been playing and the like. It's akin to The HotSpot circa 2005, 2006 (in approach, not in personality) which is a good thing.

Unfortunately the production value is still a little low. This podcast still genuinely feels like three seventeen-year-olds decided to get together and make a podcast together. The introductory music is legitimately bad. However, it is now most definitely on the right track, even if a little lacking in authority that people like Cifaldi and Parish provide.

A news based podcast without MS spokesman Brian Leahy!? Awesome will give a listen!
