Scott Pilgrim vs The World is the movie this week, the guys talked about the comic book the film is based on back in episode 55. Jeff and Dan loved it but Alex wasn’t a fan, when it comes to the movie adaption though everyone thought it was a great movie. Jeff compares it to Kick-Ass in that it’s a movie with a very modern feel for a very modern geek centric audience. Alex worries that the fact it’s a movie for geeks may mean it’s too niche to connect with most people, judging by how it’s doing at the box office that may be a valid concern.
Before the video game section the guys go all game show for “Tagline Takedown”, a trivia contest in which the guys try to guess a movie based on nothing but the tagline (or some additional clues if they struggle to guess). A very entertaining segment that will hopefully return in later episodes.
A first of sorts for the TRS crew, they’re reviewing a sports game for this weeks video game segment, Madden 11. Jeff is a big football fan but Dan and Alex aren’t quite as passionate. As a more casual fan of the sport Alex singles out the “Gameflow” mechanic as a specific part of the gameplay that really helped ease him into the mindset needed to play Madden. Dan seems pretty into the game too and is especically enjoying the multiplayer.
The guys finish up by talking about the recently announced BioShock Infinite, talking exclusively about the trailer as the don’t seem to know anymore details than that. Jeff is super excited but Alex and Dan seem a bit more skeptical until they see more.
