Adam and Matty are a little bit removed from the games and music pop culture scene nowadays but they try their best to handle Edgar Wright’s latest film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Their lack of experience in both of those likely have something to do with their dissatisfaction with the repetitive nature of the fight scenes, the unrealistic overarching plot, and the grating visual style. However, they do have something good to say about Wright’s filmmaking, which they agree is pretty well done. Matty also praises the execution of several themes, namely the relationship between the protagonist, Scott Pilgrim, and his newfound girlfriend, Ramona Flowers.
The Billy Wilder marathon has recently wrapped up and it’s finally time to reward the Sheldrakes. While the guys clearly enjoyed all of the movies and gained a greater appreciation for Billy Wilder as a result, it’s pretty clear that Sunset Blvd. and The Apartment earn the greatest praise through the various winners in multiple categories. The show closes out as always with two top five lists, this time highlighting action movie romances including True Lies, Oceans Eleven, and Braveheart.
