With the Engadget Show pushing back the Engadget Podcast to this week, the crew has a lot of ground to cover in one episode. They start off by hammering the Blackberry Torch, which makes some minor advances while losing ground in terms of speed and hardware. Luckily, they don’t take long to transition to some great mobile news, namely the rumor that Sony Ericsson would be teaming up with Google to make what is ostensibly a PSP Phone. Josh has an incredible amount of faith in his sources for this one, stating that the device will run Android 3.0 and could be released as early as October. One of the biggest questions, however, is whether or not there would be a line drawn with this union of Playstation and Gingerbread, creating a more obvious place to fragment Android with a high-end and mid-range.
In tablet news, the Notion Ink Adam has been delayed, much to the lack of surprise of the Engadget crew. While the hardware is impressive and even iPad competitive, the Pixel Qi device is starting to remind everyone a little bit of the JooJoo. Dell’s attempt at the tablet space is a product that’s debatably not even a tablet at all, namely the 5-inch Dell Streak. Josh couldn’t be more nonplussed about the product, practically choking on the Android 1.6 software spec.
The show wraps up with two big stories – the resignation of HP CEO Mark Hurd and the Google/Verizon Net Neutrality policy proposal. This has been discussed on quite a few other podcasts, including This Week in Tech with Nilay himself, so there’s not too much new ground broken here.
