Podcast Beyond is a bit more intimate than normal this week, with Greg gone and the Ryan/Colin duo going at it alone. Some of the biggest Playstation-related news in the past few days was a story that Engadget published, revealing a rumored partnership between Google and Sony Ericsson in the form of games integration into Android 3.0. Ryan and Colin seem to be fairly optimistic about the prospects of a PSP phone, though Colin remains wary about the execution of such a product and the ability of Sony to deliver games consistently.
Kojima upholds his record of announcing announcements this week, saying that he’s going to be introducing a new game at TGS. Also in the news is the rumor that Gearbox would be picking up Duke Nukem Forever in order to finish the game, which might be made possible by Take Two’s acquisition of the franchise after a brief lawsuit with 3D Realms. News wraps up with Blockbuster’s integration of game rentals in their mail-in service, which isn’t too promising after readers reported that their selection is pretty lacking.
The topic of the week is extended readermail, considering the podcast room is a little empty. They weigh in on their favorite Final Fantasy characters, Sam Bishop’s absence, living in San Francisco, Heavy Rain Move edition, catching up on American history, Persona 3 on PSP, and several other topics.
Covered games and topics: Bioshock Infinite, PSP + Sony Ericsson + Android 3.0?, Kojima announces a TGS announcement, Test Drive Unlimited 2 delayed, Duke Nukem Forever… lives forever, Infinity Ward hiring, Blockbuster’s Gamefly competitor, Madden 2011, Valkyria Chronicles 2 demo, The Official IGN List of Upcoming Playstation Software on All Three Platforms by the IGN Editors, Topic of the Week – Extended Readermail
The IGN office is almost empty today, but Ryan and Colin have a show to record. The legendary Greg Miller is on vacation, so the makeshift Beyond crew discusses the hottest game news in the coming light of the German tradeshow, Gamescom. The crew answers your questions and also gives out instructions on how to chat with IGN editors over the phone for the next episode of Beyond. So, getting down to business…
