Retronauts returns with a fairly short episode, there isn’t much in the way of retro news or releases as of late. Chris Kohler starts things off by talking about his recent experience at the Classic Gaming Expo, while there he saw Halo 2600 a 4k Atari 2600 game made by Ed Fries. Actual 2600 cartridges of the game were being sold at the expo. Other than that Kohler tells some tales about picking up some rare game boxes and such.
The bulk of the show is dedicated to Scott Pilgrim, the idea seems to have been to talk about the game but the majority of the discussion focuses on the comic book and movie. The frachise has close ties to retro gaming as the game, comic and movie are all infused with loving references to old games. Obviously being a game itself the PSN/XBLA adaption has some of the closest connections to old school gaming, it’s essentially River City Ransom.
The discussion goes back and forth between the comic and movie mostly, with Jeremy having seen the film and commenting on some changes that had to be made for the switch in medium. There is definetly a generally feeling of adoration toward the Scott Pilgrim franchise, it appears to have struck a very specific chord with all the guys on the podcast.
