Shawn opens up the 200th show by giving a little bit of overview to the format, namely that the first half will be comprised of an interview with Ken Levine about Project Icarus and the second half will be taken from their live conference call at GenCon. Julian starts the interview off by asking why Irrational would revisit the Bioshock franchise, with Ken’s response that Bioshock Infinite would be almost completely different from Bioshock.
He makes it clear that the connections between the two games are almost spiritual, with Julian pointing out the franchise’s attraction to dogma being a potential string between them. Ken highlights the power of characters as well, which is solidified by the interaction between the protagonist (which very much isn’t a cipher, as the protagonist was in Bioshock) and his companion Elizabeth (who is shown briefly in the game’s trailer).
After the twenty minute interview, the show transitions to a live GenCon recording with a studio audience. Julian talks a little bit about the smaller scale of the conference which is reflected in the shrinking Wizards of the Coast castle/booth. They talk about a large slew of board games with plenty of hysterical laughter and audience participation, so it’s really worth listening to in order to capture the fun.
