First up is Civilization V and it is probably fair to say that Chris is totally into it (and of course he is– already towing the company line). He points to the overall tone of the game as achieving a grandness that is absent in almost all other games. Steve takes some time to talk about the forthcoming Bioshock 2 DLC that has been occupying his time recently, and then the conversation moves to the PSP.
StarCraft 2 talk is rampant again this week, but the focus is on the story and presentation this time around. The guys have a lot of good things to say about the care taken in the presentation, both mechanically and artistically, but the writing isn’t doing much for them.
The last part of the cast has the guys answering emails, starting with talk of achievements and how they can add or detract from the sense of accomplishment linked to simply “doing a thing.” The guys also talk about a recent New Yorker podcast about a writer’s first experience with games, and his realization that games are creations to be taken seriously.
Covered games and topics: Civ V, Bioshock 2: Minerva’s Den, PSP games, StarCraft 2, achievements, Mass Effect 2, gamers and game literacy
