Continuing the trend of Summer of Arcade games kicking off game talk, this weeks Player One starts with a discussion of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. No one actually bought the game but they at least tried the demo, it seems to be a hard game to “get” with the guys not really understanding what the point of it is. The multiplayer focus doesn’t really appeal to any of the crew, Phil especially. As it often does talking about Summer of Arcade leads to yet another discussion about pricing of XBLA games, 1200 points as a default price for all these releases is proving very contentious.
Zombrex Dead Rising Sun is next up, not a game but a movie directed by Keiji Inafune the producer of the game. It has been split up into episodes and released onto Xbox Live, CJ and Phil checked out the first couple. Terribly made and just generally terrible in every way possible is the general feeling, it isn’t even redeemed by connection to the games, as it apparently has none other than zombies. The guys go off on a tangent about the Wing Commander movie, which similarly had the involvement of the games creator.
It’s back to game talk and after Greg Ford talks about Madden 11 for a while Phil’s wife Dana talks with CJ about Dragon Quest 9 which both of them have been playing and loving. By all accounts it’s a very well designed game and the addition of lots of customisation and loot to find and equip has won them over. Some American retailers have been holding DQ9 events, with special in game items to get, CJ, Dana and Phil recount their trips to said events. Listener tweets close out the show as always.
