StarCraft 2 commands the first segment, with Ryan O’Donnell (Area 5) joining the regular crew. Everyone except Tyler has played and enjoyed it and they have little but praise for the Mass Effect-like breaks between missions, the accessibility, and the ambient occlusion.
After a break, they talk about the other games they’ve been playing recently. Ryan’s played a handful of iPad and iPod games — Osmos HD, Monkey Island 2, Helsing’s Fire, Aqua Moto Racing, and Archetype — all of which sound like they’re worth investigating.
Tyler chimes in for Limbo. Although everyone here loved it, Ryan is surprised at the lack of hate for a game that has frequent deaths and involves some trial-and-error. The lack of punishment, the ambient soundtrack, and the unintrusive narrative make up for it though.
They also spend some time on Bad Company 2 and Transformers map packs, Dragon Quest IX, Clash of the Titans, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Dawn of War 2, and Bioshock 2′s horde mode DLC before getting into this week’s emails.
There’s only one relationship letter this week, so they talk about good level-design, games writing clichés, and Arthur’s malevolent review-scoring system.
Covered topics: StarCraft 2, iPad games, Limbo, Bad Company 2 DLC, Transformers: War for Cybertron DLC, Dragon Quest IX, Clash of the Titans, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Dawn of War 2, Bioshock 2 DLC.
Join the regular crew, as well as Area5.tv’s Ryan O’Donnell as we discuss a host of games. OK, actually we mainly talk about StarCraft 2, but we also touch upon some iPhone games as well as the new Transformers DLC and some other minor games. If that isn’t what you’re looking for, you can listen in to our letters segment, where we pick the letter of the week and give that person a collector’s edition of SC2.
