Matt Leone steps in for Chris Grant to read the week’s weird news, talk about free games, and answer bizarre emails.
In the news, the Wall Street Journal made unfounded claims about StarCraft 2′s development costs. Women (might) buy more virtual goods than men. 11 states will support California’s anti-first amendment policies, which Sharkey has a quick, coherent rant against. The UK government cancelled proposed tax breaks for developers (last month), and Epic are letting gamers choose whether a character lives or dies in Gears of War 3.
Top of the bill in Recession Gaming is Alien Swarm — a top-down, co-operative shooter, which is free on Steam. The Breach is a Metroidvania Flash game and Covetous is a bizarre, obscene 8-Bit version of Operation.
Carrying on with the news, a “journalist” for the Daily Star (a UK tabloid) wrote about the fictional Grand Theft Auto: Rothbury, based on alleged murderer Raoul Moat’s week-long avoidance of the police.
Emails and voicemails make up the remaining bulk of the show. Some of the more lucid listeners ask about custom soundtracks, good Genesis games, and the inconvenience of piracy.
Covered topics: StarCraft 2 development, California vs. games, UK vs. games, Epic vs. the Carmine brothers, Alien Swarm, The Breach, Covetous, GTA: Rothbury.
Matt subs in for Chris this week as we rap about women apparently spending more than guys on imaginary videogame items, the awesome freebie game Alien Swarm, the Medal of Honor beta is fun, and we hate on the eleven states that support the California anti-videogame law. Also, more calls calls calls, calls from the public.
