Rebel FM Episode 69 – 07/22/10

Rebel FM

Jim Reilly (IGN) joins Anthony, Arthur, Matt, and Tyler on the podcast too classy to for its 69th episode to be a source of amusement.

Anthony kicks it off with Darkstar One. It’s a space combat sim with some trading and a lot of boring grinding. He’s enjoying grinding in DeathSpank though. Gravity Crash is a brightly colored, 2D space shooter he’s playing on the PSP. He has the low-down on Darkspore too — it’s a Diabolo clone with less customizability than the original Spore.

Jim, a quiet guy, brings sounds down on Uncharted 2 but is not on his first playthrough.

Arthur talks about a few new and forthcoming games, starting with Deathsmiles, a Lolita-styled sh’mup he has no love for. He details Firefight 2.0 and Forge World for Halo: Reach. The Signal — the Alan Wake DLC — clears up a lot of the games’s ambiguity, which Arthur doesn’t appreciate. They also discuss the value of Limbo, which is short but excellent.

Tyler and Matt have talk about a couple of downloadable games — Captain Jameson and Powder. Neither are about recreational drugs — the former is a Flash space shooter, the latter a rouge-like on iPhone and PC.

The middle section this week is about the summer. They talk about their own and their listener’s plans to lose weight, catch up on games they missed, read books, and see the summer’s movies. Arthur also has a story about the disastrous Tool set at a summer festival he went to.

In the letters section, they talk about the Summer of Arcade and the future of Xbox Live Prime Time, as well as dating.

Covered topics: Darkstar One, DeathSpank, Gravity Crash, Uncharted 2, Darkspore, Deathsmiles, Halo: Reach, Alan Wake DLC, Limbo, Captain Jameson, Powder.

This week we’re joined once again by IGN’s own Jim Reilly as we talk about Alan Wake’s upcoming DLC, Limbo, and more, then move on to how you’re spending your summers, and close out by gently guiding Jim’s love life.
