Rebel FM returns from its two-week hiatus with one of the most game-heavy episodes of recent times. There are no long tangential forays and no emails in this E3 wrap-up show with guest Jim Reilly (IGN).
After a quick discussion of Mass Effect 2, they talk about more recent games. Toy Story 3 and Transformers: War For Cybertron are two toy-based titles that have no right to be good, but Anthony and Arthur strongly recommend them.
Meanwhile, Matt’s tried Puzzle Quest 2 on the DS and iPhone. The DS’s stylus gives its touch-screen controls more accuracy than the finger-controlled iPhone version.
Tyler has been roaming the wild west with his gang of outlaws in Red Dead Redemption’s co-op DLC. That gang was more fun to be with than APB’s urban criminals though — “That game’s junk” is Tyler’s verdict.
That’s the first 50 minutes of the show — the rest is dedicated to E3. Between them, they saw just about everything and they manage a comprehensive wrap-up. Some highlights for them were, Portal 2, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, Deus Ex 3, Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Rock Band 3, and Child of Eden. The Rez sequel provokes a discussion of Japan’s creative future for games. The summary benefits from sobriety and the time they’ve had to reflect on this year’s show.
Covered topics: Mass Effect 2, Toy Story 3, Transformers: War for Cybertron, Puzzle Quest 2, Red Dead Redemption, APB, E3 2010.
We’re back, and we’ve brought a mean motherfucker in the form of IGN News Editor Jim Reilly, who joins the usual cast to discuss Transformers, Crackdown 2, Red Dead, and more, then go on for an hour and forty five minutes about this year’s E3. We’ll catch up on letters next week.

This podcast is terrible, both this episode and the show as a whole. I thought I'd seen the nadir of podcasts with the most recent episode of 4 Guys 1UP that was just a mess, but, man, this show has no reason even to exist. Frankly, I'm a little surprised this site even covers Rebel FM anymore. If this show is worth covering, then surely 4 Guys 1UP is.
I still enjoy 4 guys 1 up but this podcast I haven't listened in to in months. I stopped cause of all the microsoft ass kissin in it but castmedium guys still seem to like it. To each its own I guess.
I don't speak for the whole crew on this one, but I feel like the reason we cover Rebel FM rather than 4G1UP at this point is because at least RFM knows what they're doing. Despite what anyone's opinion may be about the show, they DO consistently bring episode that offer talk about a lot of games with a fairly consistent style, unlike the somewhat aimless offering of 4G1UP right now.
And I'm covering it and I enjoy it. So until that changes, it'll probably stay.
Edit: Although I realise people dislike it for the same reasons, I really like their group dynamic and irrelevant (to games) letters section. Plus they seem to have stopped saying "fat penis" and waiting for laughs.
I seem to have accidentally deleted my comment instead of editing it.
I originally said I was enjoying it, so I'll continue covering it until it becomes inappropriate. Also, I like the way they work as a group and their irrelevant (to games) letters section. Even if that's exactly what some people don't like. They've dialled back the toilet humour too.
I like it. Seeing as I only own a 360 I don't mind the ass-kissin
. To be honest I like this mostly because there taste equal mine so closely and the humor is 3/4 fart and penis jokes. Just because it's not produced as well as other podcasts doesn't invalidate their opinions.
I used to hate it but I like it now. It's certainly better than whatever 4G1UP has become. I like how they have pretty in depth discussions about games and aren't afraid to say when they think something sucks. Too often podcast hosts equivocate and are wishy washy about how much they dislike games.
I enjoy this podcast and am glad it's still covered. Anthony Gallegos is a natural and this crew fits together in its own way almost as well as Giant Bomb or GWJ. I don't understand hate for a show that's so fluid. The strength of CastMedium is they cover what's most dynamic and interesting — if you guys really want to argue what to drop call out 4G1UP and at1UP who try more and fail harder for much more than awhile
RebelFM has been very consistent, to me at least. There's rarely been an episode I haven't enjoyed in some fashion. I like the personalities of the main crew, Arthur and Anthony especially. They have some really interesting games discussions and I enjoy the offtopic tangents too.
