A Life Well Wasted – Episode Six: Big Ideas

A Life Well Wasted is back with this episode featuring 3 segments. The first one focuses on Henk Rogers who tells the story of how he managed to score the worldwide publishing rights to Tetris. He talks about the difficulty of procuring the deal in a then very anti-capitalistic Russia. Henk also discusses a health scare that prompted him to change his focus from games to the bigger issues facing humanity.

The second segment focuses on Frank Lantz, game designer and NYU professor. He discusses his ideas about bringing games back into the social space and highlights one of his bigger experiments, Pac Manhattan. He views games at their root as “stylized social interaction.”

Jonah Falcon is the third subject this time around. He has had brushes with fame due to his incredibly large penis, and he is not shy about discussing it. Near the end of the interview he says, “This will be my 5th 15 minutes, and hopefully this will be the one that gets me regular work.” It is a rather sad piece with Jonah’s attitude dripping with an obvious need for recognition and attention. You can find his work as a gaming blogger at Gamestooge.com.

Robert Ashley edits listener-submitted game ideas into one big, crazy game, talks to the guy who owns the rights to Tetris about his plans to save the world, gets a lecture on the future of games from a New York University professor, and meets a struggling game blogger who happens to possess freakishly enormous genitalia.

  1. Jonah Falcon says:

I beg your pardon. I wanted to discuss videogames, but Robert wouldn't let me. I just went with the direction of his questions.

That would have been weird if it was any other podcast. ALWW is more about people than products though. I was more interested to hear about your life than what you think about games, even if you do have some smart things to say.
