/Filmcast

Katey Rich joins the /Filmcast this week, starting things off by talking about her impressions of Cyrus, the latest from the Duplass Brothers.  In a bit of a followup to last week’s review of Splice, Dave got a chance to check out Vincenzo Natali’s earlier film, Cypher.  He enjoyed the movie and sets in stone his love for Natali’s full spread of work, especially with his praise of Cube in past episodes.  Devindra reports in with a boatload of television, including a follow-up from his initial impressions on Spartacus that he made a few weeks ago.

After blowing through a few quick news stories, the guys dive into their first of two reviews for this week.  The A-Team couldn’t have impressed Devindra more, opening up the discussion by saying the film is exactly what he wanted.  He highlights the brilliant casting, especially Liam Neeson’s performance as Hannibal Smith.  Adam wasn’t nearly as impressed, though he does admit he had a ton of fun with it despite not going totally along with the humor.  Katey comes out the most negative on the film, saying that the stunts are deprived of their effectiveness by the quick cuts and shakycam.

The Karate Kid remake is the subject of this week’s second review and Katey starts things off.  She sets the stage by admitting that she liked many of the moments and action scenes, though it was definitely overlong.  Adam mostly agrees, saying that the film legitimately earned the right to be remade from the original.  Dave stresses the fact that this film is far more brutal and combat intensive than the first one, attributing much of that success to the choreographic skills of Jackie Chan.

Covered films and topics: Katey Rich from Cinema Blend, Cyrus, Winter’s Bone, Cypher, Sunset Boulevard, Spartacus: Blood and Sand Season 1, Damages Season 3, Justified Season 1, Shutter Island, A Joel Silver / WB Tentpole Version of Don Quixote, Les Grossman Film Is Actually Happening, Sam Raimi Directing Oz the Great and Powerful?, The A-Team, The Karate Kid

In this week’s /Filmcast, David Chen, Devindra Hardawar, and Adam Quigley praise the directorial talents of the Duplass Brothers, decry the way the Hollywood system objectifies women, appreciate the low-budget directing talents of Vincenzo Natali, and fail to get excited for a Les Grossman film. Special guest Katey Rich joins us from Cinema Blend.

Did anyone listen to The /Filmcast: After Dark – Ep. 104 – DVD Slip Cases and What The Incredibles Is Really About? http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/06/17/the-filmcast-…
It's like an hour long argument about their interpretations of one small aspect of The Incredibles, and its one of the hardest to follow discussions I've ever heard on the show. It's absurd. I enjoyed it though, I think.

I did, it was entertaining to say the least.
