Gamers with Jobs returns to regularly scheduled programming this week, starting things off with Shawn’s impressions of Alpha Protocol. Despite his best efforts to like it, the game’s die-roll combat ultimately cut the legs out from under Obsidian’s latest. Rabbit finally got a chance to dive into Alan Wake and shares his appreciation of the game’s tension, pacing, and horror elements.
The news that Lord of the Rings Online is going free-to-play has certainly sparked a lot of excitement both among the MMO community and specifically the GWJ guys. This move makes Turbine a free-to-play company, especially with their recent success with Dungeons and Dragons Online‘s switch. Julian points out the interesting fact that Turbine is doing a lot more to make FTP MMOs less generally targeted toward kids, which was clearly the case with Free Realms. Cory and Rob have both had some experience with microtransaction-driven games and show a bit of eagerness to check out the new revision, as the business model has grown more and more savvy as time progresses.
After a bit of listener mail (many of them driving some E3 predictions), the show closes out with the announcement that CastMedium’s own Jonathan Downin will be producing the Gamers with Jobs Conference Call from now on. With that shift, I’ll be covering the podcast on CM with a clear notation each week highlighting our minor affiliation with GWJ.
