The Game Informer Show’s format is designed in part to spotlight some of the biggest games to his shelves each week, though the game covered in the first segment may be one of the biggest games to hit shelves all year.  Dan and Matt talk a little bit about Super Mario Galaxy 2, which has proven to take the success of the first game and build on it to create a wonderful sequel.  Word on the street is that SMG2 is a little harder than the original, though Dan has a few dissenting words on that.

Insomniac Games’s choice to depart from Sony exclusivity has caused quite a stir in the games press, leaving Dan, Matt, and Andy to speculate on their future.  There is a little bit of argument as to the future of Insomniac’s remaining Sony franchises (Resistance and Ratchet and Clank), though everyone ultimately agrees that it’d be to the studio’s benefit to capitalize on Sony’s technical offerings that come with exclusivity.  Furthermore, this development house chose an increasingly popular route – teaming up with EA in its Partners Program, likely as a tactic to build some financial independence.

The show wraps up with some discussion of the future of user-created content, especially with the recent release of Modnation Racers and the promises of LittleBigPlanet 2.

The Game Informer Show is hot this week. Ben even tries to kick some hip hop slang. It’s ridiculous. But not as ridiculously good as Super Mario Galaxy 2. Reviewer and host Matt Helgeson and Dan Ryckert discuss this game’s numerous strengths and slight weaknesses. Also, Dan is awesome at games and didn’t think it was a hard game. In the second segment Game Informer head honchos Andy McNamara and Andy Reiner stop by to speculate on the fallout from the announcement that longtime Sony second party studio Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank, Resistance) are now developing a multi-platform game for EA Partners. Finally, Joe Juba, Ben Reeves, Annette Gonzalez, and Dan Ryckert hit the studio for conversation about ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet 2, and what these games mean for the future of user-created content.
