This week’s show is a bit on the short side, starting off with a review of Nicole Holofcener’s Please Give. After simple agreement for weeks and weeks, Adam and Matty finally fall on opposite sides of the fence for this film. Adam can’t really see the journey that each of the characters follow, as they really don’t learn too much more about themselves along the way. On the other hand, Matty argues that Holofcener produces one of the most powerful cast of female characters to hit the big screen. Either way, they both take away something positive from the film, though Matty enjoyed the experience far more.
Listener feedback hits on some more unconventional exciting summer films, including Human Centipede (just kidding) and The Expendables. Poll results asking the best directors of the decade resulted in a tight race between the Coen Brothers and Christopher Nolan, ultimately going to the former. Adam and Matty’s top five films of 1997 close out the show, highlighting Good Will Hunting, Best in Show, LA Confidential, Boogie Nights, and many more.
