Ryan O’Donnell and Cesar Quintero of Area 5 media, producers of CO-OP, are hosted by Bitmobbers Demian and Brett. Appropriately, the theme for this episode is co-operative gaming and Demian starts with his topic — games the panel only plays co-operatively. Some games are just better when you have friends there with you, like Phantasy Star Online, which Ryan seems to think is the same offline as on, but is transformed when your friends are there to check out your loot.
Ryan has a cool idea — more games should have two-part weapons that work when players use their two parts together. A lot of suggestions for this weapon seem to involve fire.
Brett traps each fellow podcaster on deserted islands, each of which have an electricity supply, a NES, some games, and two controllers. Which gaming celebrity, and regular celebrity do they want for their co-op partner?
The community question is about competetive co-op games. New Super Mario Bros Wii is the newest title they discuss, which lets you push friends off cliffs, hog power-ups, and generally mess them around when you’re supposed to be helping.
Cesar prompts them to remember the almost-bygone era of split-screen gaming. Although lots of Wii games are designed to be played in the same room, few 360, PS3, and PC games allow that. Even LAN parties are dying out, replaced by online networks. Cesar also chairs Name the Game with sound clips from same-screen multiplayer games.
Area 5′s Cesar Quintero and Ryan O’Donnell join Bitmob’s Demian Linn and Brett Bates for a special episode of the Mobcast all about co-op gaming. The group discusses which games are only fun in co-op, which famous person they would like to buddy up with for some classic NES-style two-player fun, the future of single-screen collaborative titles, new ideas for in-game teamwork mechanics, and their favorite co-op memories.
