After a brief hiatus ATB is back and it’s an Atlus heavy episode this week with the majority of the games discussed coming from the developer/publisher. RPG news kicks off with the story that Square-Enix has trademarked the name Four Heroes of Light, which one can assume will be the western release of Final Fantasy Gaiden: Four Warriors of Light. The story leads to a discussion of why some games won’t be coming out on the DS, namely R4 cards and the rampant piracy of games that wouldn’t sell big numbers to begin with.
What is meant to be a discussion of Etrian Odyssey III is actually a more general discussion of the series. Jeremy explains what is appealing about the series, which by all accounts is pretty hardcore and seems geared to those looking for a challenging experience. The guys segway into Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey but again it is just as much a discussion of the Megaten series with alot of talk about demon fusing across the series and the Persona games.
The last big game covered is 3D Dot Game Heroes a game that takes a fairly large inspiration from the original Legend of Zelda. The guys make note that it also references other old school RPGs such as Dragon Quest. Thoughts on the game are mostly positive but Justin does have some complaints. Jeremy comments that the annoyances are what make you realise this is a From Software game and not a Nintendo one.
It’s the all-Atlus cast as Kat, Jeremy, Ray, and Justin talk about Etrian Odyssey III, Strange Journey, and 3D Dot Game Heroes. (Advisory: This episode not suitable for people who have a serious hate-on for Atlus.)
