The Game Informer Show: Episode 23

by Derek Lavigne in Games659 days ago

Matt Helgeson is back in the hosting spot this week and sits down with Andy Reiner and Nick Ahrens in the first segment to discuss the hot topic of the week in the geek world, the iPad. Both Nick and Andy picked one up right away and it seems that so far, they have both been using it primarily for reading and watching tv/movies. They move on to talk about games on the iPad since it is a gaming podcast after all and mention the main downfall being limited controls. They do however say that there are some great games, especially those built specifically...

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 5: His Cyborg Familiar

by Jonathan Downin in Games659 days ago

PAX East gets a rundown from Chris and Jake at the beginning of this one. Chris saw a fair amount of stuff at the show, but Marble Madness was the real draw for the guys– yes, really. Chris has been playing some more StarCraft 2 and he is still enjoying it.  A Kane & Lynch movie is one the way and the group is rightfully baffled by the casting of Jamie Foxx as Lynch– again, yes, really. Chris interviewed Jerry Bruckheimer regarding the film during Wondercon and shares a story about a chance encounter with Nic Cage. The emails section yields quite...

/Filmcast Ep. 94 – Clash of the Titans

by Jon Cole in Movies659 days ago

This week’s /Filmcast runs a little shorter than usual, kicking things off with yet another wholehearted recommendation of How To Train Your Dragon.  As subject of last week’s glowing review, the film has continued to do well in the box office, showing one of the lowest percentage decreases of viewers from the first week’s showing to the second week.  With Dave racking up a total of four IMAX-3D viewings and Adam coming in at three, the /Filmcast has collectively spent almost $200 on theatrical viewings on Dreamworks’s...

Drunken Gamers Radio

Drunken Gamers Radio 04.03.2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games659 days ago

This week’s DGR is back to normal as the guys recover from the Midwest Gaming Classic at home in the studio. Drunk Dials and emails open the show as usual, including the usual hilarious call-in from Fluffynuts. With Shmup Month behind us, review also return to normal, with XBL Game Room up first. All three guys seem to agree that although it kind of sucks now, there is promise for the future. Cho Aniki Zero is up next and well, I think this is a game everyone just had to experience for themselves if you’ve never heard of it. Third is...

Active Time Babble XIII: Yakuza 3 & Infinite Space | 04/08/2010

by Ross Adams in Games659 days ago

News starts off with Alan talking about his recent iPad purchase and speculating whether it could make a good platform for RPGs. The jury is still out it would seem, there’s potential but whether someone will step up remains to be seen. The only other news item is the fact Final Fantasy IX is coming to PSN, a fact which excites Jade a good deal. Ray and Kat are also big fans, the style of the game and the throwback nature of it seem to make up alot of the appeal. It was declared that it would be the last FF of it’s kind and that has...

at1UP: 04/06/2010

by Ross Adams in Games, Movies660 days ago

Alan’s article about Easter Eggs went up last week unfortunately at some point during the process every instance of the word “to” was replaced leading to lots of odd grammtical errors. The backlash that followed leads to a brief discussion about the editing situation at 1UP and their lack of copy editors. Mike shares some stories from his time at Wondercon, it would seem he didn’t make a good impression on Jerry Bruckheimer. Jade didn’t do much at the con other than buy some figures which leads the guys talking about...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 182

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Tech660 days ago

It’s the Julian Show starring Julian ‘Rabbit’ Murdoch. Julian is back this week and he has a lot to share. An email regarding platform choices kicks-off this week’s festivities and then the guys talk about their StarCraft II experiences. Julian takes center stage from here and he starts with his PAX East experiences. He gives an overall feel for the show and then gets into some of the games he gave a go, including Split Second. The guys touch on Dragon Age: Awakening and the Julian goes into the fun he has been having with...

MacBreak Weekly 189: iPad Mania

by Jonathan Downin in Tech661 days ago

Leo didn’t name this one iPad Mania for nothing. The guys have had their iPads for a few days now and the honeymoon is far from over. Everyone is eager to share their experiences with Apple’s latest portable and they are almost unanimously positive. The battery life has been among the biggest pleasant surprises. That is not to that there are any quibbles that the group has though. Leo has everyone share their ideas about what could be better. This leads into a discussion about Apple’s Thursday event where they will talk about iPhone...

Giant Bombcast 04-06-2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games661 days ago

This week on the Giant Bombcast, there is markedly less Jeff and Brad, but much more Norm and Will from Whiskey Media’s newest website Tested.com. After some random tales of dismantling iPads, talk turns to Just Cause 2 which most of the guys have been sinking a lot of time into doing as little of the story as possible. A quick stop on XBL Game Room pops up next before a long dive back into the world of the iPad follows with Norm and Will discussing their impressions of various games that have been released thus far. Ryan closes out game talk...

The HotSpot 04/06/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games661 days ago

Ricardo’s Wondercon experience is up first this week before the crew moves onto iPad discussion. No one is too excited about Apple’s latest portable, but they do run down some of the games. Mirror’s Edge gets pointed out as the right approach to these kind of games and then the conversation moves on to a potential controller peripheral for the iPhone. Cliff Bleszinski will appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday to make a big game announcement. Everyone is in agreement, it has to be Gears od War 3. The only question...

The Totally Rad Show – Episode 159: Olyphan

by Ross Adams in Games, Movies, TV661 days ago

Fun is the general consensus on Clash of the Titans from the TRS guys, not a great movie by any means. Dan thinks if a little bit of humour were injected it could potentially be very good but as it is it’s just a fun spectacle with some very cool action sequences. The guys struggle to praise Metro 2033, for the most part they appreciate some of the ideas but Dan and Alex just couldn’t get into it. Even Jeff who really liked the game, for the world and the odd eastern european sensebility, can’t fully recommend it because he encountered...

Mobcast Episode 48

by Jon Cole in Games662 days ago

Dan Hsu returns to the hosting seat this week, welcoming ex-Crispy Gamer Kyle Orland and ex-Blizzard “tastemaker” Keith Lee into the studio along with Bitmobber Demian Linn.  Being a huge Blizzard fan, Demian takes on the first topic, primarily asking Keith how Blizzard so often enjoys massive success.  Design and user experience lead the pack of strong attributes that rope in many more users than games that use far more complex interfaces on the surface. Rhythm games seem to have tired out hardcore gamers at this point, especially...

TWiT 242: The Earth Moved

by Jon Cole in Games, Tech662 days ago

TWiT starts off with iPad talk, as you may have expected.  Luckily, Leo managed to bring in a fairly diverse cast of characters with disparate opinions on the device, Jason Calacanis probably coming out most negatively right out of the gate asking why Steve Jobs wants to “cripple” his devices by not including simple features like a USB port or a webcam.  Robert Scoble shoots back by pointing out the increased usability and complexity due to the more simple surface elements, making an apt comparison to fuel-injection systems vs carburetors...

Player One Podcast – Episode 180 (4/5/10) – Hey You Kratos-chu

by Ross Adams in Games662 days ago

CJ is now a married man, Phil and Greg Sewart both attended the wedding so the guys took the opportunity to record a “live” show. As a result the quality is a little below the usual. For obvious reasons alot of the show is taken up by wedding talk and random stories of the other guys marriages/weddings. The DSi XL came out last week, so course CJ bought one. The guys are pretty surprised by how well games scale on the screen, they look pretty good by all accounts. Greg finished God of War 3, he and guest Mike Rank discuss the ending...

Let’s get this straight up-front, if you don’t want to hear about the iPad, skip this one. Jon and I sit down to discuss the iPad launch and I give my hands-on impressions after 2 days with Apple’s “magical” tablet.
