/Filmcast Ep. 96 – Kick-Ass

by Jon Cole in Movies, TV645 days ago

This week’s /Filmcast starts off unusually but very much in the spirit of the show, with each of the member giving their final impressions of Kick-Ass.  Apparently, their review at the end of the “proper” episode got into spoilers very quickly and without much warning, so Dave felt the need to serve the wary with a completely immaculate mini-review. After that, it’s back to normal with “What We’ve Been Watching”, kicking things off with Dave’s experience watching Tommy Wiseau’s The Room with...

Podcast Beyond

Podcast Beyond, Episode 133

by Jonathan Downin in Games645 days ago

It’s another podcast with Greg leading the charge. It almost feels like Greg and Daemon are taking lead on all podcasts over at IGN these days. The game talk starts with discussion about Japan’s premiere game magazine, Famitsu’s, questionable review of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. They awarded it a 40/40 review, but the founder of the publication is also involved with the marketing of the game– fishy. Capcom’s Captivate event also receives some minimal coverage with the group discussing the characters included...

Three Red Lights

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 142

by Jonathan Downin in Games645 days ago

TRL starts with a whole lot of Halo: Reach talk this week. Charles had a chance to get a sneak peek at the multiplayer beta which is due for public consumption on May 3rd, and he has plenty of details to share. Hilary and crew are especially excited about the addition of jetpacks to the game. Capcom’s recent event in Hawaii, Captivate 2010, then takes center stage with Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The crew aren’t too excited about the latest cross-over fighter, and quickly get into Dead Rising 2 which they say looks really rough. Word of Bionic...

The Geekbox: Episode 62

by Jon Cole in Games, Movies, TV645 days ago

This week’s “Three Nerdy White Guys” podcast (working title) starts off with some MMO talk, unsurprisingly. Higgins shares some of his opinions on the recently introduced mounts to World of Warcraft and his plans for the Cataclysm release. Games talk wraps up with Ryan’s impressions of 3D Dot Game Heroes, which he describes as Zelda with the serial number filed off. Ultimately, he concludes that the self-referential elements are entertaining though he wishes it wasn’t exclusive to the PS3. Listener mail takes up a...

at1UP: 04/20/2010

by Ross Adams in Games, Misc, TV646 days ago

With Marvel vs Capcom 3 announced the at1up crew speculate which characters may be appearing in the new game. Sleep is Death recently got reviewed on 1UP, Travis is quick to say it isn’t strictly a game but more of a creative tool. Two players collaborate to create a story of sorts which gets turned into a comic at the end of the process, everyone is really impressed by it. Jade was apparently going to review Again but whatever reason that isn’t happening in the forseeable future. It’s perhaps for the best as she has alot of issues...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 184

by Jonathan Downin in Games647 days ago

Shawn is out again this week so Cory is back in the host seat. Rob starts the game talk with Splinter Cell Conviction and while he enjoyed his time with it, he just wasn’t pulled-in by the experience. Lara talks about her time with Final Fantasy XIII, which was 5 minutes, and she will not be going back to it. Julian has been gaming on his iPad a lot and he talks about a few games including the iPad version of Sam & Max: The Penal Zone. While it sounds like it is a bit buggy, he says that it is still a great experience. The main attraction...

MacBreak Weekly 191: Lost

by Jonathan Downin in Tech647 days ago

There is one huge story this week, and you can be sure that Leo and gang are going to give it due time. The leaked iPhone/Gizmodo debacle can be approached from many different angles. The guys start with impressions of the new handset itself and then move onto the way in which Gizmodo has handled the story. Merlin has a lot of strong feelings on the matter and is very eloquent here while tearing into Gawker Media, parent company of Gizmodo. While a good chunk of the show is taken up by the iPhone leak story, the guys do find time to hit some of...

Giant Bombcast 04-20-2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games647 days ago

Brad is again out of the office on assignment this week, so Dave Snider sits in on the Bombcast for the first time in a while. Vinny starts the show off talking about his early experiences with Sam and Max: Season 3. Dave brings his obscure hardcore simulation tastes to the table this week with Mount & Blade: Warband, a medieval battle sim that scares me just hearing about. With embargoes lifting this morning,  Jeff discusses a lot of the games he saw while in Hawaii at Capcom’s Captivate event, which are too numerous to begin to mention...

The HotSpot

The HotSpot 04/20/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games647 days ago

Kick-Ass starts the show this week. Although it’s not really game related, the guys enjoyed the movie a lot and want to recommend it. Capcom held their anual Captivate event last week in Hawaii and the biggest reveal was Marvel vs. Capcom 3. It will be in 3D, much like Street Fighter 4, and is said to feature more than 30 playable characters. The group talks a bit more about Splinter Cell and everyone is pretty high on the game. In news, word of a “taboo” new Kojima game kicks things off before the NPDs get some time. Software...

Drunken Gamers Radio

Drunken Gamers Radio 04.18.2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games647 days ago

This week’s DGR is slightly shorter than usual, sans Feature Presentation, although shorter shows are not always a bad thing. Drunk dials and mailbag start out the show as always, with the usual entertaining drunkenness. The guys also have yet another contest with prizes thanks to some of their listeners, with a grand prize being a copy of Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox 360. Reviews start off with Scrabble for the iPad with iPhones connected, which the guys say works very well, and not much else because well, it’s Scrabble. Warioware D.I.Y....

The Totally Rad Show – Episode 161: Butter It Up

by Ross Adams in Games, Movies647 days ago

The “what if I were a superhero” aspect of Kick-Ass appeals to many geeks and the TRS crew are no exception. While Dan and Alex do have some criticisms they are fairly minimal, all 3 hosts agree that it is a fantastically well done movie across the board. The fact that the film is able to juggle several genre tropes and still able to resonate is cited as it’s main strength. The guys also discuss the news that Joss Whedon is apparently in final negotiations to direct the upcoming Avengers movie, a prospect that has them all very...

CastMedium Podcast 032 – 04.20.10

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, Tech648 days ago

I have been known to accidentally record from my MacBook Pro’s built-in mic for the first few minutes of a podcast from time to time, and this week I did it for the whole show. Yep, enjoy the poor audio quality. We are usually overloaded with topics, but this week we are quite short on them. The lack of a 1UP flagship podcast starts the discussion. We then quickly move on to Splinter Cell Conviction, which none of us have played. In tech, it is all about the 4G iPhone leak. We hit on the hardware first, and then touch on some of the issues...

Mobcast 50: Birthdays, Frustrating Experiences, and the Best Game Ever

by Alex Martin in Games648 days ago

It’s the 50th episode of the Mobcast and regular hosts Shoe, Demian, and Brett are joined by special guest Seanbaby (Cracked and formerly of 1UP and EGM). They talk about the games they expect to be playing 50 years in the future, the most frustrating, and the greatest moments in games. Next, the crew reminisces about gaming-related birthday memories. Brett had some cool parties in his childhood, Shoe talks about his most thoughtful gift, but poor Demian had to wait until graduating from college before he was given his first console. Seanbaby...

Player One Podcast – Episode 182 (04/19/10) – Suckura Wars

by Ross Adams in Games648 days ago

Since last week Greg Sewart has finished Dante’s Inferno but his thoughts haven’t changed much. He wasn’t overly fond of the grotesque design of everything and from a general gameplay standpoint he cites God of War 2 as a much superior game. The XBLA release of Final Fight gets some love, the various visual options including a impressive arcade cabinet replication take up most of the discussion. Magic Sword barely gets a mention but its inclusion isn’t enough to make any of the guys pay the 800 points. CJ and Sewart are at...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 159

by Jon Cole in Games649 days ago

This week’s Game Scoop! was recorded on Saturday, so expect a little bit more hilarity than usual.  Things start off in a fairly familiar manner, covering the past month’s NPDs and the dominance of God of War III and Pokemon SoulSilver/HeartGold among the software ranks.  The DSi XL came out strong, bolstering the DS numbers and breaking ahead of the Sony PSP. Daemon managed to dig up a tweet from Ochre, a musician who apparently leaked the existence of LittleBigPlanet 2 by saying he worked on the game’s soundtrack.  With this...
