This week, the podcast former known as…will be known as 1UPchuck. Jeremy takes the helm again but announces this will be his last week and it sounds like we will finally get to see the future of the flagship next week. This week is shaping up to be the Activision episode. First up, the news that Bungie signed a 10 year publishing agreement with Activision sent the games world for a spin and Frank Cifaldi clarifies some of the details. The next Call of Duty game, Black Ops, was also just announced and is the next game from Treyarch and the guys think it may compare to the odd numbered Star Trek movies. Frank closes things out by talking about a new PC game delivery platform called Instant Action which runs all in a browser.
Whatcha Been Playin’ makes a return this week and Frank leads off talking about the dumb fun he’s been having with Dead to Rights: Retribution. Scooter has been playing Alan Wake for review and likens its style to an Xbox version of Uncharted, but through the lens of Stephen King rather than Indiana Jones. Sam brings up Afterburner Climax which leads Scooter to share an amusing anecdote about Ray Barnholt’s first time playing the game in a Japanese arcade. The show closes out with more discussion on the Halo Reach Beta.
Covered games and topics: Activision, Bungie, Call of Duty, Steve Jobs, Instant Action, Alan Wake, crotch biting, Halo Reach
We dig deep this week to find something, ANYTHING worth talking about that doesn’t involve Activision or Bungie. Are our efforts in vain, or is there more to the games industry than the shenanigans of corporate juggernauts? A podcast thrillstravaganza!
